Carl is on a trip with his MBA class to the East - staring in Singapore, moving onto Shanghai, back to Singapore and onto Bin Tan (Indonesian island just off Singapore). I will join him in Singapore on Sunday and we will be going to Cambodia for a week.

I am in Edinburgh with my parents.

Carl has the camera in China, so photos will only come a bit later

But here are a couple of comments from his trip so far (I get regular sms updates)

Singapore 11 Oct
"Beers are 16 dollars! off to little India and China town..."

Shanghai 12 Oct
"This city is big!
Went for a walk in Singpoare yesterday and my feet are sore. Went to Raffles, was super cool but 21 dollars for a beer and 26 for a singapore sling"

(Do we detect a beer theme here??? I thought it was an academic tour!)

Shanghai 13 Oct
"So far food has been good. The city has really awesome buidlings. Went to a South African expo by the dti (Department of Trade and Industry). It was pathetic! Beers were 35 rmb, we think we were ripped off. Went to a fake market but quality was circumspect and not that cheap."

(beers again!)

Shanghai 14 Oct
"Cool day. A bit of an amazing race today. Had to examine ideology of China and go all over the city. Went to a deep water port - huge. Going to get lost in Shanghai tonight"

Shanghai 15 Oct
"Been up the second tallest building in the world, awesom views. Ate some strange food and drank some aweful stuff. Been walking a lot and my feet are sore. Hopefully I have got some cool photos."

(2 days with out beer wonder how he is surviving)

Shanghai 16 Oct
"Been sightseeing today. Saw some awesome temples. Lots of bargaining in the markets, bag is getting heavy. Rand has apparently dropped big time"

That is All for now
