Our hotel in Shanghai isn't quite as nice as the one in Nanjing, although it may actually be ritzier. The room is badly designed. Didn't they have a feng shu artist work on this?! It's a long rectangle. You walk in and there is a closet on one side and the bathroom on the other. There is a large tub, but the shower is just next to it without a door. Thus you get the tub wet when you shower. A row of shelves houses loose tea, cups and one of those fabulous heat-water-in-seconds electric teapots I fell in love with while in Europe. Next is the living room with a desk and TV. Only when you sit at the couch you look at the computer NOT the TV! A beautiful wood wall with pocket door separates the living room from the bedroom. The bedroom part barely fits the queen bed, dresser, tv and desk. The best part is the view.
We face the Bund and Pudung. While it is partially blocked by the monstrous Westin Hotel in front of us, the view is amazing.
ABOUT THE HOTEL: Salvo Hotel Shanghai is a 5-star international hotel. It is situated
right in the heart of Nanjing road and Bund commercial zone in Shanghai (CBD), about 5-10 minutes walking distance from Nanjing road shopping street, the Bund, Yuyuan Garden and People square. Hotel is extremely closed to the metro station(Nanjing road east, line2) and it takes only 5 minutes to reach Lujiazui commercial center by going through the Yan’an road tunnel.
The hotel has thirty-one floors; we're on floor 17. There are 600 rooms in all. The building displays a combination of Chinese classical stlye and Twenty First Century modern style. As a hotel of international standard, Salvo Hotel Shanghai offers a full range of accommodations, including 600 digital business guestrooms, multi-functional conference rooms, Chinese, Western and Japanese restaurants with various designs and features, lobby bar, top floor pub with bund view, business center, gymnasium, beauty salon, recreation center, shopping arcade and large parking area, as well as a host of other business services. http://www.sinohotel.com/english/hotelinfo/salvo_hotel_shanghai.html
Living roomThe mini fridge is hidden in the cabinet beneath the TV
BathroomSplit into two by a pocket door. The first part houses the sink and toilet. The other part has a large tub and shower.
Small houses bordered by big buildingsNotice how a block is developed. Large concrete buildings are on the outside near the street. Inside the block are small houses, set so close I don't know how they get into each one.
View to leftStraight ahead you can see some of the skyscrapers in Pudung. I think there are more skyscrapers here than just about anywhere else in the world.
Tea shelfAh, loose tea and an electric teapot.

Thanks for the overview of your China lodging. (you report like an asst. editor or something!!!) Looked at this travel blog at the office and photos came through, not so when I open travel blog at home. So... cool to see photos for the first time! Hows the weather there? Us Minnesotans are always interested in weather you know. Blazing hot here! Kitties are doing well, I think hanging in the basement when inside where it is cooler, and Sebastian under front porch when outside. Toured your house yesterday with office agents.
love and smooches!

That is definitely an incredible view!! I can't believe the rooftop tennis court! And the rooftop garden reminds me that I ought to be taking better care of my own bedraggled garden.
Hey Tesha: Looks like you are having a wonderful time. I finally had some time to read up on your entries and view your photos. Have a great rest of the trip and I look forward to reading more from you.
What did the ladies think of my house? I miss my kitties... It's been so hot here I can hardly function. Finally some relief today. I've been seeking out air conditioning whenever I can find it.
