Shaghai World Aquarium
We enjoyed the multi-level aquarium. It was really neat! Goodbye Shanghai, you have been good to us.
China has been the experience of a lifetime and it is only beginning. Training lasted much longer than anticipated. I was the last of my group to leave Shanghai (other than those staying there). We were so happy to finally be coming to Wuhan but it was so nice to explore Shanghai.
We were able to visit the Shanghai World Aquarium, The Shanghai Wild Animal Park, The Bund, The Museum of Science and Technology, Qiabo, the SheShan Basilica, experienced KTV and even took a trip to Jinshan to see the China Sea.
The Aquarium was beautifully designed. It was several stories tall with tons of different animals. The jelly fish exhibit was huge and the bottom level was full of tunnels with moving walkways that brought you by gigantic sea turtles and ferocious looking sharks.
The Wild Animal Park was one of my favorite tourist places. My new friend Krit went with us. It allowed us unique opportunities to get up close with exotic animals. We fed Kangaroos, had our pictures taken with a tiger cub, and golden monkey. We fed Lemurs and watched pandas play. It was such
a great experience.
The Bund is a walk along side a river. The view opposite the bund is spectacular. We went at night and all the modern architecture was light up to impress. We stopped to take some pictures and before we knew it we were the attraction. The boys were very popular. People stopped us every few feet to take pictures of us. The boys think they are celebrities now. William was especially excited about this. He made a photo bomb experience. When he seen a group of young people and would run and jump in the photo. They would get excited when they seen him and start passing their cameras around so everyone had a photo with the foreigner…ha-ha. It was a great night.
The Museum of Science and Technology was so much fun. The boys had a blast exploring the atrium, the animal exhibits, robot world, and the world of spiders, color area and so much more. It was fun and educational at the same time. My only complaint is that we didn't have more time to spend there. The Museum is very big and we ran out of time before we were able to
The Bund
It was a spectacular sight at night! The buildings changed colors and sparkled! Beautiful! investigate the whole thing.
The SheShan basilica is on the top of a hill. It was a beautiful catholic cathedral. To get to it we hiked through a bamboo forest. It was peaceful and serene…until the boys got there ha-ha. Our friend Krit went with us. She is so good with the boys. We miss her now that we are in Wuhan. We had fun viewing the pagodas and Chinese architecture. The last trek up the hill had little booths with wood carvings of Jesus’ journey to the cross. They were beautifully done and preserved. When we reached the Church there was a service going on in Mandarin. They were singing an old hymn that I knew but they were singing in Mandarin. It was so great to hear them singing it. On our way back we stopped at Qiabo Old Street. It is a beautiful older neighborhood lined with shops. There is a canal and bridges and boats travel along the canal. The smell of the food was definitely different from what we are use to but the sights made the smells worthwhile.
Our last weekend in Shanghai, we decided to go to see the China Sea.
The Museum of Science and Technology
The museum was cool. This area was a huge atrium with some beautiful plants and cool bridges. We hopped on a bus and it took us about 45 minutes to an hour to reach Jinshan. It was a beautiful sea side city. Very clean and very nice. We strolled along the beach and enjoyed the ocean breeze and sand in our toes. They had huge rocks and boulders all along the beach. There were signs but of course we could not read them. We noticed a bride travel down the beach with her groom to take pictures and within the hour there were at least 60 brides and grooms all taking pictures. I had thought it might be a fashion shoot or a lucky day to marry. I found out later that the photographers will book photo shoots and then go and do them all on the same day to save time and money. The wedding couples do this ahead of time and display a book of all their photos at the wedding. We took a train back to Shanghai. It was nice ride. We met our friends Krit and Courtney at HongMei Lu for dinner. One last dinner at my favorite Mexican food plane in Shanghai, Mexico Lindos.
My on boarding group (training group) was
such a wonderful group of people. It is amazing how close you can grow to strangers when you are in a new city where most people do not speak your language. We bonded and I will miss all of my new friends. We had a night of KTV before we left. I did not realize how serious KTV is here in china. The place looked like a huge fancy hotel. You rent a room and have a waiter and leather couches and a killer sound system. We had so much fun!
We enjoyed Shanghai and plan to visit again but now it’s time to start our lives in Wuhan!
