Just had to write another quick blog to inform you that this week I will be appearing on Chinese TV on a news report titled "Yellow Haired English Teacher" but don’t worry I'm trying my best not to let my fame change me!
I was just taking a normal class when the headmaster rushed in and told me to brush my hair (how rude!) as the camera crew was about to arrive. They filmed me teaching and writing on the blackboard and singing head shoulders knees and toes - some how I don’t think it was the coolest TV debut but I was quite excited anyway!
Spent this weekend in Jinan which is the capital of Shandong province. Brett, Christi and I managed to hitch a chauffer driven ride with our friend Jo Jo whose dad works for the Chinese government so at least we arrived at our disabled person’s hotel with style. Not sure why we were staying in disable hotel, lots of handrails and a blind massage centre it was all very odd and to be honest I was slightly afraid but at least it was cheap! We spent the day looking around Jinan trying to find Brett a
decent electric guitar and getting a bit freaked out by all the other westerners (not used to seeing many these days) there were also a lot of disabled ones not sure if that had some weird connection with our hotel but anyway we found it very funny, in a non p.c. way!
We visited a Chinese style mosque built in the 13th century which was amazing but in all honesty our main reason for going there was that the lonely planet had mentioned that you can buy incredible kebabs outside it, but no such luck -gutted!
That evening, in true style of our weekend trips away we all got hammered. Jinan actually has some quite decent bars with not bad music. (And Frankie I freaked out when California love came on you would have been proud) The only problem with most of the clubs is that they are so quiet and also the fact that several Chinese business men kept mistaking me for a Russian prostitute -not exactly a compliment!
Anyway apart form that it was a great weekend, Brett found his guitar and Christi and I found hot chocolate and Philadelphia cheese!
Sorry still not photos-doesn't seem to be
working will make another attempt in Beijing.

Hello Lozy pretty, firstly may i apologise for not sending you a message earlier! Im sure maxine will have told you that i have found things hard without you in edinburgh and the very thought of you not being nearby has been hard to handle. However, i am delighted to learn that you are doing well and rising to stardom in this far off land. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time, but, i have some even better news that will fill you with delight! I may bump into you in Melbourne if you happen to be nearby sometime in March. Made the squad for the Commonwealth games so depart on Feb 28th i think. All after Wellington and Los Angeles first. Hope you have a terrific Christmas and i look forward to seeing you soon....have missed the banter xx
