its been kind of hard to find time to actually sit down and write a whole entry and put up pics/videos so even though i just uploaded an entry i actually wrote that yesterday in the afternoon and couldn't put up the pics until today..
so, here are a few more updates and a few more pics/videos from yesterday.
1. i figured out that i can buy bread and rolls at the cake store across the street, and on Sun. I found peanut butter & jelly at Da Ren Fa (our walmart)..so yesterday i had peanut butter & jelly for lunch! lol, very exciting since I'm getting a bit bored with the noodle soup or chicken i usually switch off between...which is kinda funny cause its totally normal here to just go to the same noodle shop everyday, lol..
2. The weather here can be pretty crazy..The past week has been really nice, like in the high 60s during the day and then cool at night..this morning though it POURED!! The weird thing is that it never just rains here..like normal rain that you can actually use an umbrella with, its either nice out or its like a typhoon.
Just as i was about to leave my apt this morning it started pouring with crazy winds..I had my raincoat on and an umbrella, and I walked under an outdoor roof type thing most of the way to my class..and i was still pretty wet! luckily it was pretty much over by the time my class ended and i had a break so I could go back and change my socks and shoes, lol.
3. I hung out with Fun Shi Ja last night at a nice tea restaurant. it was pretty funny though..the lights in the restaurant were all dimmed..so when they took us to our table, she asked the waitress if they could make the light over the table brighter because we were going to be writing stuff down and looking in the dictionary and it would be too dark, lol. She talked to the waitress for a min or 2 before they took us to another area which was a bit brighter, lol. We talked about random things, but one of the things that surprised me and her were the differences in birthdays in the US and in China. I told her that in the US
if its someone's birthday and they go out to dinner with friends, they don't pay...and she couldn't beleive it because she said if its your birthday in China then you have to pay for everyone else..weird, lol. I also told her that we can tell the waiter at a restaurant that its someone's birthday and they'll bring out a piece of cake with a candle and in many places the waiters will sing..which she thought was pretty funny. Here they have specific cake shops, basically bakeries that only make birthday cakes..and thats the only place you can buy one.
4. My kids today were a little bit better. Two of my classes actually got into the dice/face game which was fun. In one class a boy sat on the die and was like praying before he threw it, lol..and in the other class they all started chanting "mali-mali-ho" which they explained is like a magic spell for the other team to loose, lol. Also my second graders were all reading a newsletter about halloween..pretty random so i took a bunch of pics...
k, i'm gonna go relax a bit before tutoring tonight. oh, and also..I'm trying to think
of some popular songs that I could teach my 5th & 6th grade since they like to sing..they have to be kind of slow though and not be too complicatedso let me know if you have any suggestions. China girl and Big Big World which they are obsessed with are getting a little old, lol.
