Teaching x2This is us teaching our lesson for the second time to the JIE college students. They are all studing to be middle school teachers.
Since I did not blogg a few nights ago, I have been one day behind in my blogging, so tonight I am going to put 2 days into one to catch up before heading out to Nanjing and starting my next adventure in Guangzhou.
So after our lessons on Wednesday, we were asked to give our lessons again to the college students at the Jiangsu Institute of Education and of course, we all said yes. I struggled with this a little since I was not happy with the inquiry part of my lesson and they wanted me to teach it to future Chinese teachers...but it turned out GREAT!!! Just as I had envisioned the lesson in my head was how it played out in the college classroom. AND I believe that without the laungue barrier and time constraint the lesson could be successful in a Chinese classroom. I was also able to tell them the modification to the idea that I used in an 8th grade classroom in America. One big difference from the middle school lesson was that we allowed each group to build their designs and execute them outside and a few of the designs both wowed and
impressed us, and their execution was even more impressive.
On our walk to lunch I started to feel terrible. I suffered through lunch and Dr. Hua could see that a few of us were not feeling good and offered to let us go back to the hotel to rest instead to traveling to the other JIE campus for another presentation to future teachers. This was very generous and all 3 of us took him up on his offer and we were all very grateful!!!
The rest of the group returned around 5:30 pm and we all met in the lobby at 6 to walk to dinner. This night it was KFC, and although I was happy to have something other than Chinese food...KFC was not as you would get in the States. After dinner, we went to Chinas equivelent to our Walmart. It was pretty interesting...then it was time for bed.
Today was a sightseeing and shopping day and that is just what we did. We visited the Confusious Temple, the Nanjing Folklore Museum and another famous ancient house which was hosting local artisans. The shopping was AMAZING! It was so fun bartiring with the vendors...after my
InterestingThis groups design was so involved and complicated...they trie dto build it but was not successful.
first successful bargin, I got more confidence and was able to get some amazing stuff for amazing prices. When I got back to my hotel room, I laid everything out and figured out who else I still needed to buy for. I will have to go on another shopping trip in Hong Kong. :)
Tonight was the farewell dinner with the JIE administrators and after the wild and crazy night with the Wuxi crowd, more everyone took it easy and we all made it back to the hotel early in the evening so that we can all pack to leave tomorrow morning.
So, this time tomorrow I will be in my hotel room in Guangzhou and I am just hoping and praying that the hotel is nice....I don even know if it is going to have Internet. I will soon find out :)
Build timeEveryone wanted the same materials at the same time so it was a little hectic for a few minutes.
Taxi rideThere are no words to describe the way the Chinese drive. The lanes are just suggestions as are the lights...really...there are no words.

It all sounds so amazing. I am thrilled that you got to teach your lesson to future middle school teachers and that it was so successful, that had to be so fulfilling. I can't wait to see what you bought, I bet that was fun and I know you rocked it out on the bartering. Your hotel room looks awesome, I hope you get similar accomodations on the next leg of your journey.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this blog. I look forward to reading it and living vicariously through you. It also helps me to not worry so much, you know me and my babies... :)
Love you, XOXO
Mama
Mariah,
Drum and bell, totally cool. It looks like your about to eat the octopus, wouldn't that be something. Sorry I was driving back to Tulsa on Thursday and back to Chicago today. I hope the remaining 2 weeks goes by quickly cause we miss you. See you soon. Love, Dad
Maybe I would let you get a small dog if we can dye it different colors every few months. That may be a worthwhile trade off. Ringing the bell is a great photo opp and totally worth it! Btw.. How did the cat food taste? love you!
