Because it's the weekend and we can, we stayed up very late last night. We figured we could sleep in this morning... well, as it turns out, that wasn't the case. Jenny called me very early, said she had some time today and could take me to the largest market in Hubei province, most likely all of Central China. You wouldn't believe this place - everywhere you look there are more buildings and more shops, it just goes on and on forever! Our goal was to find a couple things I still need for our wedding next summer. I wanted to check on fabric, just to see what the cost would be if I was to make my own table coverings. We checked around Kelowna before we left, and for what we want, just to rent, it will cost $18 for each table - quite expensive! Well, I was shocked to find that the fabric I like only costs 2.5Y per metre - about $0.40 a metre in Canada!!! Can you imagine? Each bold of cloth is 1.5 metres wide. So yes, I'm buying the fabric here in China! Also, I was looking for fabric to make Jean's shirt for the wedding, as well as the groomsmen shirts. And there were some good deals - for what we want, it's about 40Y a metre, or $6. Anyways, my mind has been going a mile a minute every since, wondering what else I can get here and save money on in Canada. LOL...
Also, Jenny took me to her old apartment. Here in China, the average and wealthy families will buy their child an apartment for when they are finished university. So when they get married, each couple already has two apartments. Then, when they have children, most couples will live with the mans parents until the baby is maybe 3 or 4 years old. So the two apartments that they own sit there, or they decide to rent them out. Well, Jenny wants to rent out her apartment, and she has offered it to Jean and I! It is beautiful, I saw it today. It was 3 bedrooms, a nice kitchen, larger bathroom - and there is storage everywhere! The floors are dark brown hardwood (for anyone that knows us well, it's like the dark wood furniture Jean and I love in Canada). It has windows everywhere, and all furniture is included. It is in a small normal Chinese neighbourhood which is attractive to me - no fancy guards or anything. And it is on the fourth floor, no elevator, which I don't mind either. Best of all - Jenny is renting it to us for 1000Y, which is 200Y cheaper then we pay right now - and right now we live in one room!!! Isn't that amazing? Another good thing - it's right across the road from our school, we don't have to walk miles every day just to go to work and home. I took some pictures of it today to show Jean, but promised Jenny that I wouldn't show anyone yet - it hasn't been lived in in two years, and is a little dirty. She wants to clean it! Of course I don't mind that:) So... Jenny will talk to Kevin tomorrow, and they will work this week to get us out of our contract here. Our current landlord is very rich, and most likely won't care. So keep your fingers crossed and pray it all works out ok?
Movie time!!!
