Saaaweetttt Tonight was amazing! Actually the whole day was amazing! Dao bu xing e ran! We started the day with the usual 8 am breakfast. my roommate and i slept through the alarm haha for 45 minutes and i finally woke up 15 minutes before breakfast. I could have slept forever But i was excited for the day. After we ate (the only thing vegetarian was porage and a spongie red cake, not the best but it filled me up) we had a campus tour by our new chinese student friends. The wuyi campus is gorgeous, they own the three lakes surrounding the grounds, and my immediate firdt question was can i go swimming?! Haha and they said it is too dangerous but i could fish if i wanted to. The air was warm with a nice moist breeze and the clouds were thick and vivid. As i walked around in caprese and a tshirt all the students thought i was crazy because it was "cold out". It felt amazing, the fresh mountain air made me feel alive and i was far from cold (there is a tone of humidity in the air). We toured the dorms, the art building and the
Thuy teaching
I sat in the back haha library. We made our way to the media teaching room where we found thuy waiting for us (we were five minutes late, of coarse becuase we are evergreeners) and a class of 60 freshman learning english (most for the first time). Each of us sat in a row of 7 to 10 students. I immediately smiled and waved as big as i could repeating nimen hao ni hao! The girl i sat next to was named vickey and she was so shy and could not stop giggling, i felt the same inside and giggled along with her. Thuy started his lecture on business start up plans. I could tell my row of students (all girls) were struggling to follow along (his handwriting is difficult to read especially for beginners in english) and i took notes with big clear writing in the most simple english grammer i could muster. I let the girls copy my notes as he finished up his lecture. We broke into groups with the goal of discussing assests, liabilities and net worth. Im possitive my group of students had no idea what we were supposed to do let alone talk about! I brought them over to the
New friend
She is studying english and architecture corner of the room and introduced myself. Im proud to say that by the end ofthe 15 minutes half my group understood (ming bai) what thuy was originally explaining! It was difficult to start off but the ball started to roll with simple questions like.. What do you like to do? I would ask a queation then try and say chinese words that had something to do with what i was trying to say, plus a lot of hand charades. ni xihuan ma?? You like?? Haha i laugh at my horrible chinese speaking skills but i realze their english is just as horrible. I found out they liked cooking, and clothing and one girl liked tea. The rest was easy, i used my chinglish and acting skills to explain the importance of location, uniqueness in product or service, and most importantly the different types of businesses. I explained what a market demand was and that one was not easy. We had lots of giggles and laughs as i struggled to explain in the most simple way. By the end i think they actually (hopefully and somewhat) understood what i was saying. It was great fun and i got some emails
Kung fu teachers
They were adorable and so helpful to keep in contact. I let them know that i would help them understand anytime they wanted! I love to teach. Class ended and we headed to lunch. It was super tasty (like always) and the hospitality was amazing. After i stuffed myself silly we had a short break then it was off to enjoy a workshop on arts of self cultivation. We watched a huge group of students preform theN we had to get on stage! Infront of what seemed like the whole school! It was difficult but i felt like i did a really great job, and it felt good to strech my body and get my blood pumping. Joohee and i made friends immediately with our group leaders. They were so mjch shorter then me and i thought they were in highschoo but we come to find out they are freshman and sophmores at wuyi. They were obbessed with my nose and kept telling me how beauitful i was. I hope that they realize they are just as beautiful as me, even though we have diifferent noses. I had a great time practicing my painfully spoken chinese (thank goodness for joohee) and we both took over a
million photos with them (they wanted so many pictures my mouth was sore from smiling, but i didnt mind).
After dinner was the best part. We bused over to town to see a performance about tea (wuyi's famous tea da hong pao) big red robe called Impression dahongpao. Oh my oh my was it a treat! The bleacher we were in rotated 360 degrees with beautiful music, dancers, lights and effects. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was an outdoor show, and we (all 2000 people) were in blue ponchos as a drizzle came down from the sky. It is undescribable how Amazing it was! Lets just say the same guy who directed the last beijing olympics directed this one as well! Even though it was in chinese it was fabulous! The night ended with me and joohee laughing our butts off till we cried and now i am in bed, exhausted and happy, ready for another fun filled day tomorrow.
The only thing missing is my family, friends, my classmates back at evergreen and of coarse nicholas. I wish you all could be here to experience china with me. Im trying
