This was a work outing to Anji so not exactly food orientated, but the day was so crazy it deserves a mention, and besides I did end up getting a free lunch out of it - white fish, melon and bacon soup, sweet and sour pork, aubergine, spicy cabbage, bamboo and of course lots and lots of rice. Plus with it being free then everything tasted twice as good 😊

We ate inside the nature reserve we were visiting, which is about a two hour bus ride from Hangzhou. It’s famous for its bamboo forests and it’s definitely a beautiful area, but I’m not sure about the zoo… bears riding bicycles and tigers doing leapfrog, strangely captivating, but all so wrong. However if you’re not concerned about animal rights then it’s worth a visit as you’re guaranteed to see all the animals up very close, if not in very natural habitats. There’s also a mini fairground - we went on the big wheel and got a great panoramic view of the area.

Sweet and sour pork

I have started to judge a place on the amount of bone found in their sweet n sour pork. This gets a 7/10.

This is a total nightmare to eat with chopsticks, its all so slippery I think 75% ended up on the table rather than in my mouth
