Hi All, From Zhaoxing it was back to CongJiang bus station to find out that there are no buses that go to BaSha so we had to take a taxi, 30 rmb, to BaSha village. The taxi dropped us off at the ticket office, 40 rmb, and then we took the tour bus up to the village. We stayed in the hotel, name I cannot remember, which is just to the left of the village square. The view of the valley from our window was amazing. The hotel also had a great restaurant on the ground floor. BaSha village is a wonderful collection of hamlets that are pretty much unspoilt by tourism. There are some huge wooden racks that are used in the autumn to dry the rice grass. Alongside these there are also a great ... read more

Leaving Zhoaxing was as challenging as arriving in the village. Under a big banyan, they began to sing a song. Lala kept on walking. He even didn’t turn round. He was afraid he couldn’t leave them if he stopped. This is a plot from the film ‘Lala’s gun’. I don’t know why, I consider it is very romantic. The story’s background is in a special village in Guizhou, China. A minority group has lived there for centuries. You may hear of there is a mysterious minority named ‘Miao’ in China. In fact it divided into two groups, short Miao and long Miao, which depends on their length of the skirt. People in this village ... read more

Situated in the hills that surround Congjiang, the riverside Chinese equivalent of a one-horse town, Basha is perhaps the most well-known and popular Miao village in the state. In terms of scenery, Basha most certainly puts the former to shame. While still touched by the hand of development, evident in one or two of the photos I posted, this village, spread through the lush foothills of southeast Guizhou province, in comparison with more easily accessible roadside towns such as Congjiang, this Miao village retains the vast majority of its original character. Our local guide and village resident Gui Yuanliang (his Mandarin namedont ask me for his Miao nameI definitely missed that one) is actually a nation-wide movie star. Dont let his stature fool you, this guy is one hardened, gun-toting, chest-puffing stack of a man. ... read more
