So finally after 1 month in China I got the news today that my Australian Working Holiday Visa has been approved and I am able to land in the Land Down under any day I wish (within the next 12 months to be exact).
After many calls and e-mails to the consulate in Guangzhou, due to the fact that my application could not be found in cyberspace for some reason, the kind lady at the consulate found it and very quickly sent in my medical results and "ta da!", within hours she called me back to tell me it was ready and to enjoy my stay in Oz. (phew! that was a run-on sentence...)
So as I jumped for joy and sms'd pretty much everyone I had in my cell phonebook here (4 people.. LOL!), I started my internet search for info on jobs and accomodation in Perth, where I'll most likely be starting my adventures in Oz.
I've never been so happy in the past month or so as I am today. China was great, but because I was sorta in a rut and couldn't get myself out of it, it just wasn't what I was expecting, but that's entirely my fault. No regrets though. Never really have any. I'm just happy to start something new. I know getting back into the work flow after 5 months will be a little tough, but I'm sure I'll get used to it quick enough when I see my money slipping away very quickly over there. It definitely ain't the same as SEA, India or China, so I'm expecting to see it fly away. So first week in I'll be heading to agencies and workplaces looking for some jobs. Well at least if I don't like the jobs I know that I can't stay more than 3 months, so it's not that bad really. Bah! 12 weeks!
Anyway, I've been trying to find some warm clothes here in China since it's so cheap here, but to no avail. It's so hot here that nowhere can you find anything remotely warm to wear. I guess I'll just freeze for a day until I can go shopping in Oz.
Other than that, not much new. Martin came down from Guangzhou this weekend and we had BBQ outside near my hotel and stayed there 'til the wee hours of the morning sipping back some Hai Zhu (Chinese Beer). And Sunday we both went for haircuts.... YES! For those who know Martin "Tits" well, guess what? He finally did it! He cut the hair off! I wish I had pictures to show you now, but I don't have my cable here. It's so strange to see him with short hair! And me well, luckily this time I didn't get "mulleted" in Asia again... he he he... I think that's a first! I was so scared that they would "mullet" me again, that I was absolutely stunned when he was done that I didn't. Fantastic! After that, we headed to his friend's Trevor for some good 'ol Hot Pot... my favorite Chinese dinner. Mmm, mmm, mmm. Hot pot, for those who aren't sure what it is, we usually call it Chinese fondue back home. But it's much better over here. You just sit there and eat for hours.
So that's pretty much it for news. I think I'll be leaving China within the next 10 days to head out to Oz. Going to check prices for first available flights out of here and the cheapest of course, so keeping my fingers crossed.
'Til next time!
