Having had little inspiration but a lot of transpiration due to a feverish cold, I return to add the blog for the last few days. Let's go back to the last entry where we were about to depart to Foshan.
We left early in the morning, actually a bit late, so that Tong had to race through trafic to the train station. We arrived on time to catch our train. Unfortunately it was a kind of stoptrein, so it took us about 4 hours to arrive to Foshan, which was supposed to be a little bit over an hour. Later we found out Yue's parents had bought the wrong tickets and on our way back from Guanzhou it took us 5/4 hours. We went to visit the remaining family of Yue's mother, i.e. her sister and mother, so Yue's aunt and granny. Granny turned out to be a very very fragile lady pushing 90, who was in not such a good condition. We talked to her a bit, most of the time she asked questions and made jokes, which were according to Yue very clever, not at all similar to her physical condition. Anyway, we had lunch we her aunt and
she showed us the places where her sons (Yue's cousins) would be living soon. Very high buildings, like all of the bigger cities in China, but then really cheap, even for Chinese standards. Nice too, although I would for sure have a problem living in a building that has 1000 similar appartments and apartment buildings.
After we came back, we talked a bit to granny again and then Yue's parents left for Shenzhen, while we set of by bus to Guanzhou.
The bus ride was about half an hour and we continued by metro. Before a lot of people had warned us about the lack of safety in Guanzhou, but I found it a much more attractive, although very dirty place. Everybody seemed to be more happy than in Shanghai and they seemed a lot more curious and open. A lot of people greeted me on the street or came to us for a chat. Apperently they don't get that many foreigners there. The people were tiny though, I've seen a lot of girls that hardly reached Yue's shoulder height! The next morning I started to feel not so well, but we still set out to visit some spots in
town before leaving in the afternoon. Around 4 we came back, because I really felt bad and we took the fast train back to Shenzhen. There I immediately went to bed and didn't come out today untill 6 pm. I'm feeling much better today, but still a bit ill and I have a nasty cough. We had to cancel our trip to Lufeng, the village Yue's dad is from, but her mother who already went there promised to burn some insence on our behalf for the ancestors.
The schedule looks as follows: tomorrow we'll try and do some book-shopping if I feel well enough and on saturday Yue's maternal cousins are probably coming over. We will fly to Hainan-south on Sunday and return the next week saturday.
So for now, I hope I get better soon and we'll take it from there.
