In Xiamen taking it easyyyyyyyy

I arrived in Xiamen on Tuesday, June 17th. Xon picked me up at the airport. Since then, I've rarely left the apartment. I spent the first three days just sleeping. For some reason, the flight over exhausted me. Just before I left the USA, I decided to make the big switch and bought a Mac notebook. This decision was not made easily. I went back and forth for about a week before making the plunge. But, after spending 8 hours trying to install (unsuccessfully) a Windows service pack, I decided "what the hell!" Up to now, the Mac experience has been somewhat existential, sort of like being re-born. I am productive again! It's not at all that hard to learn.

Dodo's classes end this Friday. Xon's gives her class exams on July 1st and should have them graded by July 4th. Then, we are planning a trip to Guilin. Guilin is about 800 miles southwest of here, on the way to Tibet but not nearly as far. It's in the mountains, which will give us some relief from the weather here in Xiamen, which tends to get unbearable in July and August.

I've mainly been eating duck fried rice since my arrival. Xon cooks every night. She makes the best fried rice I've ever had. It's made to my specifications - full of garlic and ginger. Sometimes we eat duck liver porridge from a shop across the street.
