Hi everyone... we arrived in Beijing today, got checked into our hotel that Miao's friend booked for us, and it is awesome!!! The hotel is a bit on the expensive side for Beijing (260 Yuan = $35) but it is in a great location, and within walking distance of Tiananmen Square. It also has free internet in every room, so I am using my laptop to make this blog entry.
Miao's friend has really been a lifesaver, she booked us this great hotel, and bought our train tickets to Taiyuan. To repay the favor, we took her out to dinner at Pizza Hut. It was fun. While at Pizza Hut, Miao videotaped me saying in Chinese "I am now going to Tiananmen Square," a sentance I learned in my Chinese class back in March, and now I got to say it for real for the first time. You can see that short video of me saying that
by clicking HERE.
After Pizza Hut, it was a short cab ride to Tiananmen Square. It was really cool. We got there just as they were lowering the China flag, so there were LOTS of people. After the flag was retired by
a military guard, the sun set and the lights were turned on.
I could talk for hours about all the neat things I saw there, but I am going to stop typing for now and just upload these pictures. It is about 10:30 pm Sunday Night in Beijing, and these pictures are only a couple of hours old.
Yes, it is the Hawaiian shirt AGAIN, because Miao thought her friend would like it.
Okay, bye everybody!

Tiananmen KitesWalking to the Mao portrait, lots and lots of people flying kites in the huge square.
Miao and her friendThey are in front of the main gov't building in Beijing. Her friend works in a travel agency and got us a REALLY nice hotel, in a great location, as well as bought our train tickets to Taiyuan.
Me at TiananmenHard to get pictures because there are so many people, had to wait awhile until the background cleared up a little bit, and had to wait until people stopped walking in front of the camera a little.
Me and MaoMiao takes nice pictures, and this came out great.
Some lion guarding the gateI don't know the story on all these concrete lions in China, but they are everywhere. Crime is pretty low in China, so maybe these concrete lions do the trick.
A nice sunset pictureThis was actually taken before any other pictures on this page, I just used different settings on my camera so you can see the sun about to set.
