Cycling DAY 3 - Changping to Huairou

Today's intended route was through the hills behind Changping. With a poor tyre, we opted for the less researched, lowland route. We(OK - I) end up taking a route too far South.

We take the Sunsha Highway (S321) through Xiangtanshan. At a large roundabout at Xiangtanshan turn left (North) to Xingshou. This is marked the ANSI Highway. Continue to a T-Intersection that is actually just west of Xiangshou. Turn right and follow the road marked Beishecou and Huairou. This will join the road I should have taken in the first place!

The lowland road that I had intended to take seems unnamed, but it follows an aquaduct that is on the South side of the road (This is clearly visible on Google Earth). This road is narrow all the way along. There are no shoulders, and the drop off on either side is steep. Traffic on this road is light, but as a caution, we are there in the low season. The traffic could be much heavier at other times of the year.

At Qiaoxin everything goes pear shaped. Lacking a compass and general orentation (I wish I had thought about bringing a GPS), we head North too soon. A rather long recovery and - to cut a long story short - we do not get to our intended destination for the night (For a less formal and more emotive account of this day see Chapter 3 - Lost). We end up staying at the Super 8 Hotel on Kaifang Road (Crnr Fu Qian Street).

The Giant Bike Shop at the corner of Yingbin and Dong Fang Street in Huairou has 700X23C Tyres ....... Hooray .............
