Yesterday we didn't do much- went to Haha to check email, went to Chinese Noodles for dinner, then watched movies at ours.
Today we got up and headed to the bus station to catch a bus to Sihanoukville. This city is the most developed of the beack towns in Cambodia and the only one with recognized PADI diving centers. It's rainy season so I'm not going diving (visibility is bad and a lot of the places are closed) but I'm glad Cambodia has at least one place to dive!
We got to Sihanoukville around 2 and went to a couple of different hostels before choosing one- Monkey Republic. Cheap bungalows ($2/person/night), chill place, and a free beer with accommodation! Sold! We settled in and got some food then wandered down to check out the beach, which is a few minutes walk away. We sat in some nice comfy chairs on the beach and relaxed by the ocean. The one annoying thing about this beach (and many in Asia) is that you are constantly mauled by women and children wanting to either do massage/hair threading/manicures or sell you fruit and/or bracelets. The kids are very skilled at what they do
and can be pretty sneaky about getting you to buy stuff. They can also get really, really nasty with you when you don't buy anything as we found out. Those kids learn some choice words in English, let me tell you! They have the guilt trip thing down pat. Wow. I ended up buying some fruit from one boy who was ten but sounded like he smoked two packs a day for twenty years lol his voice was unique, that's for sure. The skill in which he cut the fruit was pretty amazing actually.
After the beach we headed back to our hostel for dinner then went across the street to a cinema to watch Bruno. OMG, so funny hahahaha I think I still like Borat better but Bruno was pretty brilliant as well. Sasha Baron Cohen is one clever dude.
We planned on going out after but I was tired so we didn't go out- we took it easy with the plan to go out tomorrow instead. Fun times at the beach!

Hi!
Did some searching about how Sihanoukville is at this time of year, and your blog popped up:) We are two friends currently in Siem Reap, but considering going to Sihanoukville tomorrow by nightbus. Heard the weather could be unstable - so how is it? What better reference is to ask the "locals" - hope you are having a good time!

Hey- hope you're enjoying Siem Reap! It rained the second day we were there so we skipped the beach. The other two days we spent on the beach were beautiful, though, and the water was calm. The place we stayed had a couple of TV rooms and a nice bar area, and there's a Happy Herb Pizza place walking distance away, so if it does rain there are still some things to do :-) We stayed at the Monkey Republic, on Serendipity Beach- check it out. Have a good time!
