Went for yet another traditional dish at dinner last night...Good old ham pizza! The lunches may not be to my liking but atleast i know that i can get a good old english meal for dinner! Before we went for dinner we went to the night market which is amazing. Lots of little stalls selling all sorts so i think there will be lots of pressies coming from there cause it's not to expensive either..he he. There was a gorgeous little outside round bar there too where we all had a drink or two.
The restaurant was nice too and it was nice to see them actually cleaning the kitchen! You can also have a cooking lesson there where you can then eat whatever you make which is quite a clever idea really as you can't really send the food back for being gross! We were eating upstairs and could see in to the restaurant opposite to which i was told not to go as that is where all the prostitutes go to pick up people!
When you are walking down pub street in the evening you can quite often hear the mine victims playing music together and busking. Most of
them have atleast one limb missing if not more and lots of tourist stop to look, listen and take photos. I was going to take a photo and give some money but my charger for the camera doesn't seem to like me. It's quite sad that they have to do this in order to survive as they dont get any help from the government or anybody. They completely rely on tourists.
After our meal we all went to a bar called the Warehouse which really reminds me of home. Lots of western music and massive posters promoting drinking and smoking. Not what you would expect at all in a Budhist Country. Is a very cool place to go though. You can spend hours just playing on the table football. he he. At around 11pm or so a small girl came in selling single roses. She can't have been any older than about 5 and she just stood near us watching us play. It's globalteer's policy not buy anything from children as they should either be in school or in bed basically so nobody did. It was just heartbreaking to see her staring at us playing and having fun while she had to be out all night in order to make some money to live. We did gesture her to come and have a go and she gave the biggest smile i have ever seen but then looked behind her and said no. Sam (The Angeli project director) tried to speak to her and ask where her mother was so he could go and talk to her and maybe find her a place in one of the placements but she wouldnt tell him. Elisa and Tracy (volunteers) even tried following her but every time she saw them she would change direction and go in to another pub. She dissappeared for a while but when Elisa and I left at 1am she turned up and tried to sell roses again. She was probably out until atleast three or four in the morning.
At Angeli today we learnt about all the different animals in English and what sounds they made. We chose the children to come out to the front and they had to make an animal noise and the rest of the class had to guess the animal. Most of the time though they didn't really unserstand and were just shouting the name of the animal and then cheering because they thought they had won.
We actually did a different English lesson today...no more brothers and sisters. We actually learnt letter sounds instead. So we went from full on sentences to learning the sound of the letter i.
Half of the children for the older workshop didnt turn up and decided it was a much better idea to play football instead so for those that did we tried to tech them about continents. They were pretty good though and we could hear them going down the stairs saying "England is in Europe and Cambodia is in Asia."
We didn't start making the caterpillars and things today cause most of the children were late. Time in Cambodia is not an important thing at all. So we read the story again and they loved it just as much this time. I guess they are used to a lot of repetition.
I'm off to dinner in about an hour for another traditional dish probably so I will go and have another shower and cover myself in bug repellent cause i can feel them biting already..
miss u all...
Kate...

Send Private MessageHi Kate. Really enjoying your reports and the pictures. I think you are going to come across a few more tear jerking stories over the next few weeks. Very tough. The local paper missed out when they declined your offer of far eastern correspondant.
Housework. What is housework??? Hardly done any this week. Spent a lot of time fishing on the beach. Well, casting a line out then reading books, papers and doing crosswords Time flies by. Nearest I got to a decent sized fish was when Jane appeared with a portion of cod and chips ! Delicious.
Off to Devon this weekend. Jane is working in Arundel over the weekend so we are driving there together tommorrow and spending Sat night in a b&B and heading west Sun evening. Plenty for me to do and see why Jane is at work. Might even do some pond dipping !
John and Ruth and grandma and grandad have your blogg address and should be contacting you soon. John and Ruth can tell you all about the travels of Charlie, Claire and Tess and Danny`s locksmith business.
Not sure if we have internet access next week so you may not hear from me for a while. Should be back next weekend for a bit before heading back to Devon with Joe. Think he is expecting to do some fishing and maybe golf. He is off to Crew tomorrow to see BHA`s first game of the season. Up the Seagulls.
Haven`t been in your room (except to feed the hamster) YET !!!!
