We all went out to this bar called Heart of Darkness on our last night in Phnom Penh. I had a great time. Then after 2 hours of sleep, Kalyna and I hopped on a bus to Siem Reap. I kept falling asleep and dropping things in the aisle.
We went to Angkor Wat right away, but only managed to see 2 out f the 7 sights in 4 hours, then it closed. But it was so beautiful.
Me and Kalyna have noticed that we both have a funky smell, even after laundry. Its kind of a mildewy, dirt smell that no amount of showers gets off. Oh and I keep scrubbing my feet but they still look dirty. Being the genius that I am, I wore all white and flip flops to the temples today. Well it poured like it does everyday and my clothes (the only clean ones left) are now covered in red clay.
Oh and I've decided that Cambodian toilets suck. Kalyna keeps yelling at me to stop using toilet paper, but I can't hover over the toilet without peeing all over it and myself. So I've clogged the toilet for about the
30th time during this trip and I'm too embarrased to ask for a plunger..... I HATE toilets.
AUGUST 3RD:
Our bus was supposed to take us all the way to Bangkok, but halfway, all the Cambodians and the bus driver took off and left us on the bus, surrounded by hundreds of guys on motorcycles. It turns out they've come up with a little scam of blockading the road and only letting Cambodians though. None of the tourists were allowed through and they kept telling us that the road was broken even though trucks were coming through! They were lying and laughing at us, so we finally got pissed off and Kalyna bitched one out.
The bikes followed us the whole way, grabbiing at us and one guy kept bumping me with his bike, until I yelled at him. We just didn't want to give them the satisfaction of giving in, so we finally hitched a ride on a pickup truck! It was THE bumpiest ride ever and I was screaming the whole way and everyone was laughing at me in other cars.
We finally got to the border, sweaty and covered in mud from head to
toe. My face is literally covered in a layer of dirt. And I have a sunburn.
We missed the first bus; actually a pickup truck, but another one came and it turned out to be the fanciest shmanciest double decker, aircon, TV bus. I've never been on a bus this nice before.
Group shot with some locals. They kept sneaking pictures of me, until I finally noticed. Then they all posed with me!!!! So I made them give me a picture too. I think they were laughing at the "filthy, mud covered tourist."
Hill up to Phnom Bakheng.I nearly kileld myself on this! It was pouring like always, and stupidly I wore my flip flops with NO grip.
AH!A mini photojournal of how we keep ourselves entertained.
