Vietnam - Hoi An and Cambodia - Angkor
Je těžké určit jakékoli hranice m... read more

Published: May 4th 2013Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap » KnarLets get the apologies out of the way; apologies for the horrendous font, it was either facebooks font or my iPhone notes apps... and that one is bloody ridiculous and sorry for the huge gap since my last blog. I am alive and I've been having a cracking time. It's been so long since my last blog that I'm going to have to split it in to Asia and Australia. This one is all about the rest of my South East Asia travels. So if you actually have the attention span or the procrastination, grab a coffee or redbull because this is going to be a longen. Worth it though! A lot has happened, including; the Vietcong tunnels, Cambodia- The Killing Fields and Angkor Wat, Dan costing me 500 baht on his birthday, jack appearing and ... read more
Angkor Wat !! Ending my Cambodian trip in Siem Reap with a side trip to Preah Vihear temple thrown in for good measure !!
Published: March 25th 2013Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap » KnarDay 182 (Fri 8thMarch) (Unfortunately although named Angkor Wat there are no pictures of it itself, just the surrounding temples. Camera is still on holiday there. They will be up when i get it back) I started my first day in Siem Reap deciding what to do. I’d been given a very handy brochure when I checked into my hostel so planned my temple route. I headed out around lunch time. I wasn’t originally going to do the temples today but figured I might as well. I stopped to get some cash on the way and met Dave (Scotland) and Claudia (Germany). We ended up spending the day together cycling around the Outer loop of Angkor World Heritage Historical Park. We took in plenty of temples after a quick lunch break. Preah Khan being the best ... read more
Moving north, being the only white tourist in the town and making it to Siem Reap
Published: March 15th 2013Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap » KnarDay 175 – 176 (Fri 1st – Sat 2nd March) Phnom Penh I returned to Phnom Penh after recovering from illness and the Cambodian North East. The bus took a mere 11 hours but it passed quite quickly and wasn’t too boring, although the countryside either side of the main highways here is pretty uneventful. There really is not a view. Either fields are burnt, there is little vegetation, when there are trees they are new borns so no big forests yet, and I think most these trees are grown for rubber so won’t grow for long anyways as demand is high. Anyways I got back to Phnom Penh around 6pm and headed back to the hostel I previously stayed at. I got the last bed in the place which was handy as I was tired ... read more

Siem Reap and the Angkor Wat Temples
Published: March 13th 2013Asia » Cambodia » North » Siem Reap » KnarAfter the horrors of S21 and the killing fields, I took a bus trip up to Siem Reap with the aim of visiting the Angkor Wat temples. As the bus got further away from the city, the places we went past got visibly poorer until we got to Siem Reap. Siem Reap is a relatively well off town thanks to the temples. It receives over a million tourists per year, so there are far more job opportunities for the locals. There were the usual tuk tuk drivers trying to sell you everything (marijuana, meth, cocaine, women...and lastly, a simple ride) and beggars, but nevertheless, it was a pleasant town. I spent three days around the temples. There are so many spread over such a large area that 3 days is needed. I hired a tuk tuk ... read more
After a long but fairly painless Ibis bus ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, I was greeted at the drop-off point by the Cashew Nut's tuk tuk driver, and promptly taken to the guesthouse. The courtyard area had a tranquil feel to it, and as I entered the dimly-lit reception area, I was handed a wet face towel and a glass of cold water. I was given information regarding the guesthouse rules and excursions, then I was taken to my large air-conditioned room on the second floor. I had a quick wash, sent a few emails and set out to see what Siem Reap had to offer. I found my way to the local market, selling bags, clothes and souvenirs, then headed round to Pub Street for something to eat. I stopped at a little ... read more

February 25th We were woken up at 4.20 by our alarm and then 4.30 by the hotels alarm and managed to get washed, larded up with suntan lotion, insect repellant, ice gel and ibuprofen gel and tiger balm for our injuries, then get dressed took tablets and met our guide at 5 so we could see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. We took tuktuks to the back entrance and by torchlight ( scary thing of the day as I am so scared of falling over again) we entered Angkor Wat. We stood with others by the lake waiting for the sun to rise and started taking lots of photos. Unlike sunrise at the Grand Canyon 30 years ago or even Matchu Pitchu there were so many tourists making a noise, one Chinese tour leader had a ... read more
I can't beging to explain what an amazing place Cambodia is! In some places you can see quite severe poverty and others you see wealth....yet people are so friendly. I spent time in Phnom Penh (the capital) Sihanoukville (Seaside town) and Siem Reap (Where Angkor is). All were spectacular and I would go back in a second.... read more
