Temples of Angkor, Cambodia

As we write this update, we are about to head back into Thailand from Laos so yeap - we're way behind on our blog!

It's easy to remember though what an amazing time we had in Cambodia. We spent the first month pretty much on the beach in Thailand so when we got into Cambodia and to Siem Reap, we were really ready to start seeing some culture!

We stayed just under a week in Siem Reap from where we could head out to Angkor and the temples . We got a three day pass and hired a bike each of the days - the best way to get around and see everything. We meant to get up for sunrise over the most famous temple - Angkor Wat - but we kept sleeping in. One day we did manage to get up about 5am and get on our bikes and cycle the 5/7ks to the temple but the sun came up before we got there ...

Some of the temples were used in the Lara Croft Tomb Raider movie and you can see why as they are totally amazing. Lots of people though

visiting them so the morning we were up early (but not early enough) was really good as not many others around.

On the way back on our last day we had a slight bike accident where I went into the back of Niall - our breaks didn't work very well and people drive up the wrong way on road - but I only ended up with a puncture. Still - cross words exchanged!

Other highlights were one night we decided to have a change from the local cheap foodstalls and go somewhere nice for dinner. We had to start taking our anti malaria tablets and decided then would be a good time. I had heard swallowing big tablets with your food was much easier so after a few mouthfuls I tried swallowing my tablet down but it stuck and I started choking and spluttering my food and everything else. Of course we were sitting at the v front of a packed restaurant so everyone got a good look. Niall even got advice on how to do the Hiemlick manouevre which seemed to do the trick, eventually. A fun night and annoyed I spoilt my nice dinner 😞
