Yesterday may ave been the best day of the trip so far.
we woke up quite early, for our standards, around 8am and decided to test our hotel's patio restaurant for breakfast. I had a lovely bacon omelot and Alicen had a Cambodian fried rice, egg breakfast that she really loved.
then we hopped in our tuk-tuk, which we rented for the whole day, of to Angkor, about a 20 minute ride. the weather was perfect, upper 70's and clear sky. we bought the 7 day pass so we could have the flexibility to come and go as we please.
yesterday we hit up Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat. Wat is the largest religious structure in the world. the layout felt a bit like the Forbidden City, with lots of layers of walls and inner temples. we could get inside and really explore the majority of it as well. there was an insane level of detail sculpted into all the walls, a lot of them still in quite good shape. there were these really long murals telling the stories of wars, fishing, celebrations, and all kinds of really cool, full scenes.
this is the most popular temple to visit and was definitely relatively crowded. compared to anything back home or in Japan, this wss really empty and spacious, but we actually came to this temple second, so it felt pretty crowded after the first one.
to start the day we went to Angkor Thom and visited, Bayon, ourt first temle of the Angkor experence. this was really, really cool.

we could explore and climb over the entire thing and it was empty enough to where even though wee could usually see or hear other people, we were often totally alone. it was neat.
we walked around a lot more, smaller, and isolated temples before heading off to see Angkor Wat. then a really good dinner of local cuisine, met a few cool people, and played some foosball in a bar a few tims. it was a really chill and very pleasant day.

Hurrah for a very cool day!!! I have several of your boxes now. 3 have been delivered to my home, and two I picked up at the Post Office because I had to sign for them. The one really long skinny one I openned because Mike wanted to know if they were the walking sticks. Guess what? They were! Mike was delighted. Andrea is here right now playing with Mariah, and she says "Hi!" Love, Mom
