Star Gazing trip at Sharm el-Sheikh
Star gazing trip from Sharm el-Sheikh
Bedouins are nomads, they don't have some specific place to live, but they have to move from some place to another every one month looking for water wells. Bedouin are spreading all over of Egypt (they are estimated about 1.000.000). Some of them live in Sinai Desert. The bedouin life is a very simple life and is different than its Egyptian mate. For example you can find the Bedouin men marry usually more than one wife, therefore the Bedouin family is a big family is consisting sometimes of 10 members. The oldest child when is six years old has to go to work to be in charge of his youngest sisters, brothers and mother, that means they don't care much about education. They are used to live freely in the desert. They have two sources for water to drink; the first will be the water wells, if they didn't find them they recently can buy the mineral water. How can they manage to find water wells? They should go at the feet of the mountains where they expect to find the wells and make camels take a tour and at the place where the camel will stop, that means if they dig there they will find a water well.
The daily life of the Bedouin women
The Bedouin women are used to wake up every morning at about 5 O'clock, then they will start to prepare the breakfast for their husbands and children, after this they will look after the house affairs like cleaning home or washing then they will go outside to feed the animals but it s not preferred for the bedouin women to stay for a long time because when they want to go outside they have to be covered totally in black even their faces. With the high temperature in Sinai will be hard enough to keep on, so they should finish as possible as they can and will go home inviting the other women to come to make some hand-made stuff like carpets, tents, necklaces and bracelets (Bedouin ornament).
The main jobs for Bedouins?
Most of Bedouins is workings as shepherd for camels and goats. Some of them working as fishermen specially in the cities which are near the sea. Recently they are depending on the tourism field as a main source for earning money (they can organize Bedouin night or offer the camel ride).
Bedouins originally came from Saudi Arabia from five hundred years ago and they found the nature of Sinai similar to this one Saudi Arabia so they decided to stay in Sinai. They speak as well in Arabic but with a local dialect which is completely different from the Egyptian one. Star gazing trip, Camel ride, desert safaris in Sharm
