In Conakry ,
So, I went back to Senegal.
Had my VISA card retained in Ziguinchor.
Crossed into Guinea-Bissau and spent the night on the floor of a friend's (from the bus) house for free.
Got into the city center the next day and enjoyed myself as much as possible.
Would have had to wait until friday to go to the Bijao Islands (which was my plan) so decided it would be better to just continue on (Guinea-Bissau is way too expensive to stay more than a couple days)
Got to the border with Guinea no problem, but then I made my stupid mistake, the dumbest mistake.
20+hour bus trip to Conakry. Now really this wouldn't have been so bad the roads not been littered with potholes (20 hours for 400km) . It also would have been much better had I not gotten sick about 3 hours into the trip.
So, 18 or so people in a small van or bus going on bumpy roads for 20 hours combined with diarhhea, no stops for water and a laugh and a pat on the back when i told them i was sick made for an awful day.
When I did manage
Didnt Take Long
before the car broke down for the first time
to finally get to Conakry. I had my wallet confiscated ( and emptied) by a police officer.
fortunately i only had a few euros on me.
So far I must admit, Guinea seems like a failed state. Nothing works (electricity, water, police, roads) massive poverty and disabilities, a huge population of refugees from Liberia and Sierra Lionne and Cote D'Ivoire. No one talks about politics because it makes them depressed. Their currency drops in value daily.
Guinea-Bissau is a bit of a different story, though it has similar electricity and water problems the people are happy and they have good roads.
I am heading to Mali next, going to take it easy gettin
