Our trip to Zambia began with the right feet. From Dar es Salaam in Tanzania we took the TAZARA train in direction of Zambia. The trip to the border by train took us one day and one night, on top of having a very comfortable train trip, what makes this trip so special is that the train crosses the Selous National Park in Tanzania. This giant and almost untouched by the tourism industry National Park is home for elephants, giraffes, lions and many other famous animals. To make everything better, as the train crosses the heart of the park we had the chance of spotting this animals right outside of our cabin window. We did a free game view by train (hehehe, didn’t even had to pay the Tanzania expensive park fees). We left the train ... read more

Adrenalin day: At 8.30 am we headed out for a day for pulse racing, pure fear events. We began the day by signing a waver for any accidents or death that may occur during our activities -such a reassuring beginning. This place offered; Abseiling- backwards and forwards (don't ask), a thing called The Flying Fox- where you run at full speed and jump off the edge of the canyon (I should say here that you are attached to a body harness and you slide out over the huge gorge and they pull you back in). Then there is the zip slide which involved you holding onto handles as you are propelled to the other side of the gorge........And then there is the big one, which before I came I was not even considering. The Zambezi swing. ... read more

Well day number three in Livingston and we embarked on one of the tours we had to actually pay for. This one was Livingston Island. We arrived at the Royal Livingston Hotel at the leisurely time of 10.30. This is the place where we departed by speedboat to get to the island, however I can't go on without telling you a tiny bit about the sheer opulence of this hotel. Basically it is a place for those with lots of money and no manners. Crazy Americans dressed head to toe in old fashioned safari gear including the pulled up, long socks and silly hard hat. It was luxury personified. We sneaked into the toilets and I have never seen so much marble and gold - I'm ashamed to admit I took a photo. So we caught ... read more

Livingston Zambia We awoke at 2.30 am to tackle the long drive back to Johannesburg airport. As we were getting our stuff together, we heard what sounded like a bloody huge animal in the stream bellow our tent. Not wanting to even see what it was we dragged our stuff to the car we half expecting to be mauled to death at super speed. Luckily we survived and began our slow drive though the reserve to get to the main road. We had to stop several times to let sleeping giraffes get off the path. It is surprising the evil look a giraffe, that has just been woken from a nice sleep, can give you. We also had to stop for three zebras; two adults and tiny baby one which pleased Sarah no end. I drove ... read more

Vielleicht wirds besser Richtung Sueden (Namibia, Suedafrika). Liebste Gruesse, eure Miri und Annina... read more

Hi everyone! Thanks for all you messages! At last an internet spot to update the blog. Day 10, our first day off, not only have we caught up with our 3 days but we're now a day ahead! It's been hard riding all the way! On average 500 kms per day (they were pulling my leg (which they do alot of) when they said 1.000!!) at 110 kms/hr. Longestt dayy waas 577kms. The first week was freezing all along the coast until Northern Namibia where we turned East n the layers started peeling off (7 in some cases!!). On the wildlife side so far we've spotted loads of ostrich (one of which was suicidal n tried to attack johnny moroc n coronel mustard (dad) but they managed to escape in one piece), springbok, warthogs, oryx, baboons, ... read more

Hi All :) This blog entry shall be back-dated as it is now August the 10th in Malawi. I shall still pretend that this entry comes from days gone by in Zambia! What's there to say? Our Zambian excursion started with a 5 day stay at Victoria Falls/Livingstone, the "tourist adventure capital" of Zambia, "the real Africa." Following this we drove through Lusaka then east through Chipata to Malawi. Much fun was had on the way! The half way point of our overland adventure was in Livingstone where most of the people on our bus either ended their tour or were joined another truck on their trek back south to Johannesburg, South Africa. 4 of the original Cape Tonians are continuing on until the end in Nairobi, Kenya. We have been joined by a handful of ... read more

Hi all, Sorry it's been a while, things in Croatia a little antiquated (hence the photos didn't come through properly), then we were travelling and it's taken us until now to catch our breath. Back to Croatia and the Dalmatian coast. We decided to try and cram everything in and so we were once again tired but exhilarated by what we saw in Croatia. We went up to the Village to visit Jo's Dida (grandad) and managed to catch a lift with one of the many Opacak relatives so the trip took 45 minutes instead of double that. Village life was an eye opener to us both, such simple living which is agreeing with Dida because he's 81 and still looking after acres of vegie patches. Saw resident donkeys and befriended a gorgeous puppy we named ... read more

Well, I had some issues with my last entry, and probably could have just combined it with this entry, but figured since it was all finished, and I hadn't done and update in awhile I'd just start this one fresh for Zambia. We were dropped off at the border and caught a ferry across the Zambezi river, the overland group on board wouldn't really acknowledge us in their hot shot truck and thus upon reaching the other side just sort of took off even though we were going to ask them for a ride into Livingstone. We managed to get into a minibus packed full of bananas after quite awhile negotiating, and even though we had a shuttle from the Hostel coming to the border it was about 6 hours later and this particular border crossing ... read more

Well after arriving back in Windhoek after our last little adventure around Namibia, Charlie, Jas and I began looking into taking the train up to Livingstone, Zambia to see the falls and go our separate ways. That morning, rather than take the train we decided to rent a car with Rob (a Kiwi) and Sophie (English) to cruise around northern Namibia, making a true commonwealth experience. We were off on another four day little safari in another little white opel...this time with 5 people and all of our luggage and food. Needless to say it was a tight fit, but a hell of a lot cheaper. First Stop: We left the first day at about noon and drove some 900 plus kilometers to the Ngepi Lodge situated on the Okavango river. It was an awesome little ... read more
