No safety railings here (Dad would love it) just walk up and see how close you can get.
Well, I had some issues with my last entry, and probably could have just combined it with this entry, but figured since it was all finished, and I hadn't done and update in awhile I'd just start this one fresh for Zambia. We were dropped off at the border and caught a ferry across the Zambezi river, the overland group on board wouldn't really acknowledge us in their hot shot truck and thus upon reaching the other side just sort of took off even though we were going to ask them for a ride into Livingstone. We managed to get into [View Full Entry]

Just as the sun is setting we stop to take a few shots...we were a little late leaving the park.
Well after arriving back in Windhoek after our last little adventure around Namibia, Charlie, Jas and I began looking into taking the train up to Livingstone, Zambia to see the falls and go our separate ways. That morning, rather than take the train we decided to rent a car with Rob (a Kiwi) and Sophie (English) to cruise around northern Namibia, making a true commonwealth experience. We were off on another four day little safari in another little white opel...this time with 5 people and all of our luggage and food. Needless to say it was a tight fit, but a [View Full Entry]

Zambia - Victoria Falls and Botswana II May - June 2006 Note: click on the photos to enlarge them - particularly helpful with the route map. At the end of my last journal we were over-nighting in Katimo Mulilo (far east end of Caprivi Strip) on the Namibian side of the border before crossing into Zambia (May 29) on our way to Livingstone, on the banks of the great Zambezi River and gateway to Victoria Falls. Zambia - Victoria Falls (May 29 - June 2) Victoria Falls is on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Since Zimbabwe has pretty much had [View Full Entry]

Chundukwa - my last "home" in Africa.
As you well know, all good things must come to an end and I have yet to figure out why vacations go so quickly and the typical work day seems to last forever. Perhaps it is because as adults we still have the child in us that wants to never quit playing. We leave Botswana and enter Zambia by the way of the Kazangula border, a point where the four countries of Botswana, Zambia, Nambia, and Zimbabwe meet. We were to stay at the Natural Mystic Lodge, however our camp was changed to Chundukwa which is located in Livingstone and a [View Full Entry]

I left you in Eshowe and I'm soo Glad I left, my god it has to be the worst hostel in the world. I was one of three people staying there and because the Baz bus only runs certain days i was stuck there, i nearly slit my wrists. Rain, cold and outdoor showers = happy days! The reason for my eshowe catastrophe was to do Zululand so went around this Zulu village with a thousand little kids in tow wanting a picture taken. As for the Zulu beer rocking, hardly, looked bad white and foamy and tasted even worse. Was [View Full Entry]

Soaking under from the spray of Vic Falls
Drunk? Sober as a judge!

I had crossed the border on foot, again, and was fortunate enough to be distracted from my misery at leaving the lions by a conversation with 2 Zambian students who dreamed of working in the UK. (WHY? yes it pays alot better but we also pay alot more for everything and we get taxed through the nose.) Then another border crossing, fortunately I had arranged to stay at Jolleyboys in advance this time so they had arranged a visa waiver for me. However when I got to Jolleyboys they had cancelled my reservation, as I had not turned up when expected. [View Full Entry]

Dancing the Night Away

10:30 pm Christmas night
10:30 pm Christmas night
Oh yeah, and there was a half hour free-style session
So, how many of you have been to a party at someone’s house where they had a dance floor set up for the night? Alright, how often does there actually wind up being people dancing on the dance floor? Now, how many times has it turned into everyone at the party dancing? Now picture a party where the dance floor was cleared ahead of time, the dancing started almost as soon as the first people got there and only stopped for dinner… all the lights were on the whole time… nobody drank any alcohol… and one of the times was Christmas [View Full Entry]

After a long ardous 17 hour bus ride, we landed in Livingstone, Zambia's Tourism Capital. We stayed at Jollyboys Backpackers and signed up right away for a Booze Cruise on the Zambezi. The boat started sail at 3:30 pm and went along the mighty Zambezi river, upriver from the Vic Falls. We drank, ate and made new friends and watched Elephants and Hippos along with the beautiful sunset. We met an Indian family from Lusaka that had come to see the falls. There are plenty of Indians in Zambia, mainly in small businesses - similar to all the East African countries [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Livingstone late, after driving over some of the worlds biggest potholes at about 140 kph! So it was off to bed pretty quickly. The next day I said my good bye's to Sanele with a promise too visit his art sudio in Victoria Falls in couple of days even saying that I would go to Zimbabwe a day early despite my reservations about what I had heard with regard to their attitude towards the British. My intention was to go and visit the falls, however it started raining so I was going no where very quickly. Again. I [View Full Entry]

So There I was at my secend border post in three days wondering what lay ahead of me and after handing over my GBP35 I returned to the bus eagerly awaiting the next country on my list of countries. I waited on the bus some more. And abit more. Just to make sure we weren't in a hurry immigratrion kept us waiting some more. After two hours we were on our way for the last two hours of the journey to the adventure sports capital of the world and home of one of the seven natural wonders of the world, Victoria [View Full Entry]
