Our itinerary says that few superlatives can be used to describe Victoria Falls and boy is that right! We caught our flight this morning from Jo'burg to Livingstone and arrived here in Livingstone earlier this afternoon. Zambia is definitely much more remote than South Africa - or at least than Johannesburg.
The flight again was uneventful - we were shocked that they served us lunch on the plane for only an hour and a half flight. And not only lunch but chocolate and red wine too - I was in heaven.
We arrived at our hotel - the Protea Livingstone - and were again so taken away by how lovely it is here. After checking in and toasting our arrival in Zambia - we headed off on our helicopter tour.
We were both very excited about the helicopter ride as we had never been on one before. It was amazing. We are so glad we did it too because the falls are so long that really the only way to take it all in is from above. They are half full right now and it was really perfect as we could see the water and the spray -
but there was not too much spray to where it obstructed the view. After circling the falls we flew over a game reserve and saw our first African wildlife. We saw elephants, giraffes, wildebeasts, buffalo, and zebras - all just chilling in their natural habitat... it was unbelievable. I actually teared up a bit up there as I just couldn't believe the sheer beauty and naturalness of it all - and that we are really here!!
Our laptop is about to die so this will be it till we return to Johannesburg and can get a converter (because of the voltage differences here).
Tomorrow we will be hiking around the falls. We will be starting in Zimbabwe where we will be hiking through a rain forest, viewing the falls from that side, and visiting a local market. Then we will be heading to the Zambian side to view the falls from there on foot. After that I think we will just lounge by the pool and relax. Thursday is our last day here and we are thinking we will do a river safari in the morning before we head out that afternoon. We will be back in Johannesburg
Thursday evening.
Till then - peace, love, and well wishes to you all!
V and Jeff
