Hey!! Yesterday we mostly just hung around my uncle's place. His driver (yes, he has a driver. And a housekeeper who makes wonderful passionfruit juice fresh every morning - I know we really can't get used to this kind of lifestyle!!) took Matt and I down to the market where we got a couple things and changed all of our money to Ugandan shillings. Then we came back to the house and had our lunch. That afternoon, my aunt and uncle's school was having a talent show so we went over to watch. Since they teach at an international school, all the kids have parents who are ambassadors, diplomats, or work for the UN or stuff like that, and so it's really really diverse with kids from lots of different backgrounds being represented. We actually ended up judging the talent show which was pretty cool. Some of these kids can daaaaaaaance!! hahaha Jess you would have loved it this one girl was crumping like mad!! After school Matt helped my uncle coach the volleyball club. Clearly I had no part in that one haha. We had dinner at the house, then FINALLY my backpack got delivered to the house!! Uncle Mike was raising hell with Kenya Airways and finally got a response. I basically just sang and jumped for joy, it's so nice to FINALLY have my own stuff.
Whenever Matt and I go out walking everyone stares at us, obviously because we're white. I think I get the lion's share of the weird looks though haha. This morning when we went for a walk to the market, these 2 little girls came running out of the fields and started walking with us. We couldn't understand what they were saying but the one little girl grabbed my hand and kept stroking my arm and examining my finger really closely, it was so cool to watch. The other little girl kept reaching up and petting Matt's arm. Overall, definitely an experience I wont forget. It's so cool to interact with the local children because they don't regard you with any suspicion, only curiosty. We have been pretty sheltered staying at my uncle's so far, so I'm excited to get out there into the country where things like this morning's experience start happening more often and we get to see what real life is like here.
Tomorrow morning we're leaving early to go Murchison Falls, a national park that's about 4 hours north of Kampala. My uncle decided instead of staying at a guest house outside of the park, it would be more fun to hire a park ranger and camp out INSIDE the park, next to the wildlife. We're going to go on a few wildlife drives this weekend and I think Matt wants to go fishing but obviously I want nothing to do with that haha so I'll probably hang out with my aunt and cousins and do something actually entertaining :)
