Ok, so after an epic safari, headed back to the villages for 10 days ... it was a week of hard work, we managed to fit in lots of teachings to schools, community groups etc and have organised our big SIC testing day for next Wednesday, advertising it as SIRI, BURE HARAKA....fast free and confidential! Hopefully there will be a record turn out ... so teachings went really well, teaching reproductive health to 150 girls in a primary school classroom was certainly a challenge, 30 footballers the same day, some life skills and their goals and dreams, related to why its so important for them to stay healthy etc, we made a paper chain of all of them which they loved - im definately racking up my numbers of african gap yahhh photos hah surrounded by small children! So we did about 5 primary school teachings last week, 4 secondary school teachings where we get a lot of contraversial questions but they make us think about all our info we learnt in prefield - i definately know the curriculum well know and dont need to rely on notes when teaching, which i guess can only be a good thing! So in schools, the kids are hilarious characters, defo have our favourites so it makes us sad when they arent there, such as this 10 yr old boy who wears a top saying drama queen on it!!! they all love to sing wakaaa wakka, this is africa, by shakira, to which Kieley and I started to join in before realising the school was having a massive debriefing outside, and they could all hear us... walked out hanging our heads in shame, very funny moment.

Village life is treating us well, lots of oranges and avocados freshhh freshh fressh, along with standard carb fest ... I have so much dust on me, I cant honestly tell whether I am getting my tan on but that is where Zanzibar comes in!! We return after this break for 10 more days, and then, weirdly enough, it will be practically home time after more teachings, community day and testing!!! Have been running up and down this hill in the village to which everyone looks very bewildered that 1, there is a white person...mzungu! and 2, they are doing exercise.... well ive got to manage that rice baby somehow...

So I write this from stonetown, Zanzibar, historic and beautiful island off the coast which we got a night flight to last night, returning to Arusha on Monday. Spot of history today, a lot of slave trade history in particular, went to a night market last night - very much enjoyed a whole freesh mango, watermelon and fresh fish.... yes, clare eating baracuda, scallops all grilled street food style. Finished off with some refreshing sugar cane juice....living the life! Off to Kendwa later on a daladala bus we negotiated with the hostel for a taste of white sands, fresh fruit and snorkelling, all skantily clad, before returning to village life, showing no more than my dirty lower legs! mmmm.

So, I'm finally off to Tanzania for two months this summer, where I'm volunteering with with Support for International Change (SIC), teaching about HIV & AIDS out in rural communities in local villages and schools and living in a homestay with a local family. I'm aiming to update you all with my news/any stories etc... will add photos if I can work out how to use this account, or if it lets me out there for that matter! Clare xxx... full info
