Just a quick one to let you know that we drew two all in the match yesterday. It may well have helped that we had two national Tanzanian team members playing for us! It was quite an experience. I don't think I will ever get to play in a stadium again. I played in defence so managed to last the duration! I hope you are all keeping well. [View Full Entry]

Our First Week

 Africa » Tanzania » North » Moshi
It's hard to believe that we've been in Tanzania for a week. We have been warmly welcomed by the mission team. We are extremely grateful to the Richardson family who has so graciously opened their home to us, until such time that we are able to find a house to rent. Here is an overview of our first week in Tanzania: Tuesday, 17th: After arriving at the Kilimanjaro airport, we were driven to Moshi by Brent Richardson, John Hall, and Christopher Mwakabanji. During the trip, the rains came down and soaked our luggage. When we arrived at the Richardson's home, [View Full Entry]

Almost Settled

Waiting for the container.

As many of you know, we finally got our container about a month ago. We have been so busy putting things away that I have forgotten to update our blog. Things seem to be settling down a little, so hopefully I will have more time for updating!! We are still waiting on our car. Hopefully by next week we will have it. I am just going to post the pictures of us unloading our container. Mostly, because everyone has been emailing for pictures of the kids. :) I'll get busy on posting a "real" blog entry very soon. Love you all!!! [View Full Entry]

Still waiting....
And waiting some more
Here at Last!!

Ok we know it’s been 6 weeks since out last entry and people want to know what has been happening since our half term break in Zanzibar, but we never seem to have much time to sit down and write, so sorry it has been a while. We are both well, and we are now on 2 weeks school holidays as the first term has finished. Rachel is a bit drained from a very full on term; she has been sick again, this time with an ‘amoeba’ (severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea) so has now totally sworn off meat. Report [View Full Entry]

...has been insightful. I have been busy since the moment I got here with my placement, cultural visits and the occasional evening out! I am pleased to report that I had my first glass of red wine last night at the bar next to our home-base and it tasted very good. I spend weekday mornings at the TUPO community centre in Tenguru. All the members there have HIV or AIDS. There are three volunteers at the centre so it is less intimidating than being the only mzungu (white person). We have primarily been teaching English to AIDS orphans at the [View Full Entry]

We Made It!

 Africa » Tanzania » North » Moshi
Hello Everyone, Thank you all for your prayers, especially as we made our way to Tanzania. We wanted to send a quick note to let you all know that we have arrived safely. We are all well, and are actually not feeling too tired, considering the lack of sleep that we've had. We were blessed wtih a noneventful trip, which is always a good thing. :<} We were met at the airpport by several of the missionaries. Brent Richardson, John Hall, and Cory Hall were a big help in hauling our family and luggage back to Moshi. We are so appreciative [View Full Entry]

THE REAL AFRICA

King of the Jungle
King of the Jungle
During the dryseason when the grass dries up, the lions are easily hidden. But the REAL King of the Jungle is the TseTse fly!!! Trust me on this one!!
The Real Africa Africa has two faces. There is the one Africa that is enchanting and mysterious where lions hide in the elephant grass, and the Maasai become men by killing those lions with nothing but their spears. There is the Africa where you can hike to the top of an active volcano at midnight and see the glow of the lava and feel the heat. There is the Africa where thousands of visitors come every year to see the Dark Continent for themselves, hoping to catch a glimpse of the magic that National Geographic is so good at capturing for [View Full Entry]

Giraffes
...I don't know why, but I love this picture...
Pulled into Arusha around lunchtime aboard the luxurious Scandinavian Express after a lovely 20 hour bus ride from Kampala, Uganda. The one bus we actually expected to leave on time left 3 hours late, went through Kenya (pulling into fun-city Nairobi at 4am - not the best time of day to be on the streets of Nairobi). Arusha was about 4 hours from Kenya - I think marking the first time I've ever crossed 2 borders in 1 day. At the Kenya/Tanzania border had a couple guys attempt to con us out of our $100USD visa money (undercover police officer stepped [View Full Entry]
