Hi everyone!
So Zanzibar was a definite adventure. Me and Jason left at 6am on Saturday morning on a bus to Dar Es Salaam, where we arrived just after the last ferry to the island had left, so we had to stay a night in crap Dar at a hostel called the Jambo Inn. The Saturday night was pretty much just a boring layover until we could catch the first ferry in the morning to Stonetown.
We arrived in Stonetown on Sunday morning, jumped off the ferry, and took a dala-dala to the north of the island to a place called Kendwa. Kendwa is known for its amazing beaches, and party life, but as we went during the slow season, there really was no party. None the less, it was a great 2 days there, lying on the beach, swimming 5-6 times a day, and we also went on a snorkeling trip to a place calle Mnembe island on a big wooden "dhow". As nice as Kendwa was, there really isn that much to blog about as it was mostly just relaxing in the sand. We stayed in a thatched hut banda on the beach, our cheapest option (Kendwa
isn really designed for backpackers)
Tuesday, after our snorkeling trip, completely beached-out and sunburt from head to toe, we went back to stonetown and booked into a hostel called Flamingo. It was really nice, and I cannot say enough about how cool stonetown is. It is very touristy, but it is so fun getting lost in all the twisting alleyways, having coffee in little shops, and haggling for cheap souveniers.
Both nights we were in stonetown, we ate a place called the Forodhani gardens. It is basically a big open food garden with tons of stalls where people sell meat, seafood, and all sorts of different dishes. You basically walk along trying something from everywhere. I truely wish I had another couple of days to walk around stonetown, and this is definitley a place I would love to come back to one day. I decided to fly back to the mainland from Zanzibar so on the Thursday I hopped a Zanair flight to Arusha then just dala-dalad my way back to Moshi.
I am currently in my last 2 days here in Moshi before I fly to Europe. I am really going to miss this place, it
is kind of like a 2nd home to me now. On Friday evening, I went back to Kili Kids orphanage for my final goodbye...it was quite emotional. I brought some little toys and a bottle of Fanta for all the kids there and we had a little party, singing songs, and talking. Some of the kids were in denial that I wasn going to be in next week, and they asking me if I could please come back in January...I wish I could.
Pretty much just going to be spending my last 2 days here getting ready for Europe, washing my clothes, buying the last things of what I need and somehow packing it all into my pack.
I am planning on visiting Amsterdam, Berlin, Krakow (maybe), Barcelona, and Seville for my Eurotrip, but am not exactly sure how long I will be there for. Cya all soon!
