Sorry no pictures. Wifi is a hit and miss in Africa!

Day 2 We woke this morning to the majestic Mawenzi peak in the background. WOW! The view was breathtaking. We were also able to catch the odd glimpse of Kibo which is the final destination. It looked pretty manageable from this distance. We were told that this would be a long and hard day and no truer words spoken. We would walk 15k and gain 1000ft in altitude. The morning was the hardest however as we did the lions share of the climbing before lunch with the sun beating down upon us relentlessly. It is worth noting that the intensity of the sun seemed too increase with every foot of elevation gained. Most of our group wilts in the heat and by the time we reached our lunch spot we were pretty much exhausted not to mention starving. Once we were energized with food we managed to finish the afternoon strong. (ish). The trail in the afternoon was riddled with rocks and although not a lot of uphill we were pretty happy to reach camp! Once again we were greeted by the singing and dancing of the crew. It gave us energy and it didn't take long before some of us had joined the dancing while trying to sing along as well. Day 3 Today was to be a short day which was a good thing as we gained another 2100ft, now sleeping at over 14000ft. This is as high as most of us have slept before and it was alarming how quickly we tired at this altitude. The pole, pole pace now seemed like all we could manage. We all got a chuckle out of the guides (mostly Joseph) telling us each leg would take usthrere to five hours. Our camp this night was at the base of the Mawenzi peak the air was thin and cold but we were now looking down on the clouds. If we visited the right outhouse we could see the lights of cities in Kenya. Pretty amazing😊
