Well before I begin, a continuation of last night is in order…
So after dinner us girls first watched the end of Slumdog Millionaire then showered, then started in on the wine. We played a classic game of Kings and by about 11, we were ready to head out. We got a taxi, negotiated the price down, and were headed to a place called Backpackers which we were told was a fun, rooftop bar. Well. Backpackers is apparently also a hostel and while it does a have a very nice rooftop bar / restaurant, it is only open restaurant hours. So there we were, looking like idiot tourists, our cabs already gone, and a good walk from our hotel. So we (lucky at this point to have some alcohol buzz or this would have been miserable instead of hilarious, which it was) started the long trek through downtown Arusha. 5 girls, 11:30 at night…POOR CHOICE! Hahaha luckily there weren’t really any people out and we walked pretty quickly. We decided to try another fun bar by our hotel, but arrived only to find it was closed for a wedding. So after walking probably 2 miles in total, we simply returned to the hotel and everyone went to bed. What a bust! It was a good time though, and good company.
Now for today…today was absolutely boring and drab. I woke up, had breakfast, got a stomachache and went back to sleep. When I woke up, I went to use the internet which wasn’t working, so one of my partners for our group project (Taina) and I worked on the project a bit (mostly out of sheer boredom, not academic drive) and then walked to the market to get some bread, yogurt and water. We were hassled by the usual group of VERY annoying peddlers who post up outside of our hotel and was rather rude today. They don’t like me very much.
The boredom continued as my roommate Emily and I just sat on our beds chatting and trying not to succumb to napping. I’m glad I had a Skype date with mom and sam / zack to look forward too or I might have gone insane. For dinner, I was really hoping to get something that wasn’t VEGGIES IN A SPICY CURRY SAUCE WITH RICE (like EVERY NIGHT) and was so happy to hear we were having pasta (with meat sauce on the side). I had a great cucumber and pepper salad and was totally fine with just eating some plain, buttered pasta. I started eating only to have them put a plate of VEGGIES IN A SPICY CURRY SAUCE WITH RICE AND LENTILS in front of me. I surrendered it to anyone at the table who wanted some and just continued with the PLAIN noodles. Good god. After dinner karma punished me with yet another stomachache and failed internet access. The decision was made to shower and watch Hitch with the girls over in their room.
I got Kara’s camera from her so I uploaded the pictures from the Maasai village onto my computer and will be hoping to post those ASAP.
Missing everyone and home very much right now. Sigh.
Goodnight all <3<3<3
