Eid Mubarak to all, belatedly, for last weekend :)
For us Eid brought with it the benefits of a long weekend and the promise of fun and frolicks in the hills of Morogoro with the hash -Dar Hash House Harriers, for those asking the inevitable question... So we set off a bit late on Saturday morning in Franklin my beloved Rav4, and when we get to Chalinze and stop at teh usual garage we find half of the rest of the hashers all also stopped there and feeding on sambusas, beer and bright orange fanta. The buggers were all late too, predicatbly, but ahead of us by about fifteen minutes - just long enough to buy up all but two sambusas and a chapatti.
So, hungry but determined, we set off again and eventually get to Morogoro in good time for settling in to the Kola Hills hotel, renamed Hotel California for the Hash weekend. Enough time to change and wander around before starting the walk - and for me, obviously, a walk NOT a run. The hills behind Morogoro really are lush, and the walk took us up behind the mission and teacher training college and through shambaland and what would have been rivers, if there had been any rain this year. It is so dry - crunchy underfoot and spiky bushes - the land is aching for rain.
Anyway after a good couple of hours tromping about on the hot and dusty hillside we returned to the hotel for a very long and slightly out of control circle - lots of singing, beer drinking and general ridiculousness ensued, predictably.
Not a late night though for us as we were planning to head into the Uluguru Mountains on Sunday, up to Tagatero to go camping and walking in the forest. So we crashed out at about one and woke the next morning ready to go up the hill. Well, Woody was ready. I was as ever reluctant to go up steep hills...
Allah obviously thought I had been a good girl, for I was rewarded on Eid witha nice Eid surprise. Woody called our guide to find out where he was and because it was Eid all the buses had been cancelled. So Yohaya the guide was stuck in Dar and couldn't get out to morogoro to meet us - and without a guide we had no idea where we were going - so we were forced to admit defeat. No camping and trekking for us!
Woeful Woody - Happy Han :)
Back to Dar - roast dinner - film - bed.
Brilliant!
