Yesterday, I had the pleasure of going to a soccer match between world #13 Cameroon and world #101 Tanzania. It was at the new National Stadium. Even though almost all Tanzanians expected to lose, the city was remarkably transformed. Tanzanian pride blossomed in the streets and the stadium was nearly sold out. I was told that it has a capacity of 64,000. There were at least 60,000 people there, if not more. Luckily for me and Ashley, Mike managed to get us tickets in the relatively comfortable VIP section. We had an amazing view of the entire game and the crowd was pretty sweet. Although they supported Tanzania more, they were pretty upset any time the ball went out of bounds or a whistle was called, no matter who it was against.
The game ended 0-0, which, in case you couldn't tell, would seem like a victory for Tanzania. So we went out to celebrate that night by going to a club. Second time in three nights. Phew. It was tiring, but it was a lot of fun again. And, strangely enough, I saw my host sister Nsesheye and the other people from the first night, Joy and Inga, at the club too. It's strange how the city can be so small with its nightlife. Although going out is always a good time, I feel awkward about it because I know that it's not a real Tanzania. However, we are staying with middle class families, so maybe we are doing more of the things that they do. Nevertheless, I still feel slightly awkward in some of these places.
Today is the first time it rained. As I wrote the first two paragraphs here there was a downpour. Now it's sunny again. Glad I was inside for that! Later in the afternoon, I will also be getting 2 new sisters from the US. Maybe I will tell you about them after I meet them and I get back to the internet. It's strange to think that I'm halfway done with Dar. In two weeks time, I will be on a plane and in Mwanza. How time flies!!

Granted, sometimes I feel as though I've been living here for an eternity, but especially lately, with my internship, time really has been flying. I have about 25 days left here and it's depressing. I went out with Sandra & Christelle on Friday and they tried so hard to convince me that I had to stay here. It was cute, I'm not a big Springsteen fan, but Sandra kept singing "Born in the USA--but stay in Fraaaance" to me...she wants me to stay next year and rent an apartment with her. I told her that I could only do that if she's gonna pay for everything for me--rent, groceries, my plane tickets...I kept trying to explain to them that I can't stay--I still have another year back at JC to get my Bachelor's, then I absolutely HAVE to start on my Master's or I won't get a job in the US (or anywhere, for that matter) doing what I want to do, plus, the major reason--IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE TO LIVE IN EUROPE !!! All the same, they kept trying...And I've been rather depressed this weekend realizing that some of my friends here I will probably never see again...I say "some" and "probably" because I did manage to catch up with some friends I hadn't seen in YEARS while living here this year...
I'm glad that your enjoying your time down South (I can say that bc we're in the same hemisphere and I'm somewhere north of you)...make the most of every moment because it's gonna hurt like hell to come home.
