So this weekend we went to Bagamoyo. We stayed in a nice hotel! We saw so many lizards here, I dunno why?? When we were looking for hotels we went to one and they were literally everywhere!! It was crazy. We visited with one of my father in laws cousins and her family when we were there. They were really nice! They have 6 children and one on the way, the kids were very cute. We went swimming at the one hotel and also went on the beach there.
We went to Kaole to see crocodiles. When we got there we were walking on the farm to the spot where they kept them and musa nudged me and pointed to the owner's hand...he only had half a thumb!! When we got to where they were we looked over a wall into a cemented area in the ground and when we looked in their were baby crocodiles only a year old and 7 months old. At first I thought OH great its just a scam. They tell you theres crocodiles and then they are so small. So we went to the next cemented area and we looked in and there was
one wayyy bigger! It was 7 years old. Then I looked to the right and there was over 10 more in the cage!! There were ones that were also 15 years old and one that was 56 years old. THe guide told us they live up to 170 yrs old and sell for anywhere between 1million-5million US dollars. It is also a r isk to raise them becasue of the possibility that they were attacked but he said its well worth the money.
As we were walking back we saw fruit on the ground from the trees nearby, they are called Kungu fruit, they make reallyyy delicious purple juice! If you buy the juice at a restaurant it is usually 3500 Tanzanian Shillings, which is equivalent to about $3.00. We were able to get a whole pitcher of juice for free!!!
On our way to Kaole we were asking directions and a guy said he would lead us on his motorcycle for 1000 Shillings so we let him. As we approached the intersection the police were busy rounding up wanted criminals...apparently he was one of them. He tried to escape and his motorcycle rolled and he went flying
into a cement wall. He proceeded to get up and try to run but they caught him..all for 1000 shillings he risked that. We pretended like we had nothing to do with him and kept driving!! Haha.
Next time I go to Bagamoyo I would like to go to the Kaole Ruins. I ahve heard that it is very nice there.
The other night we were all out on the balcony and we saw about 20-30 men from every direction run down the street yelling. THey were yelling theif and chasing after one. So if you try to steal here you will get run down by every man in the viscinity and probaly get beat up...and you might get your hand/hands chopped off. SO I have heard....
Today we went shopping at some of the stores nearby. Musa asked the lady why she was giving us Mzungu (white people) prices and the lady replied by laughing and saying white people are cheaper these days and bargain even more then anyone else! Musa wanted to buy me a shirt that said Mzungu. I said no. The other day a boy was asking "Mzungu"?? and musa said "NO ALBINO!" lol
the kid was like "NOOO MZUNGU!" HAHA
We were planning on going to arusha this weekend but we changed our minds and are going to Mgorogoro. It is similar to Arusha in that they have national parks except no Mount Kilimanjaro. But it is a 5 hour ride instead of a 10 hour drive which is much better since we are only going for a day and a half or so. They have lions and tigers and...well that don't
Zainab started her first day of seventh grade yesterday and she already has off today for Zanzibar Revolution Day. Luckyy!
Last week we also went to Delhi DarBar which is a reallyy nice restaurant. They have Chinese food, Thai food, and Indian food. Tho former prime minister of Tanzania was also sitting at the table next to us. I have learned that customer service here is not a top priority. Whenever we go out the waiter will bring one drink then 5 mins later bring a second drink and then when the food comes he will bring the rest of the drinks. They will bring food as its done so sometimes one person will get their food but
the rest of the table will not receive their food for another 20 mins or so. My father in law wanted to change the meal he ordered and the waiter said "oh too late maybe next time you can get that." HA!
Today Musa went to Zanazibar with his dad and they are coming back tomorrow morning so today me, Zainab, and my mother in law are going shopping =)
