So this week has been a busy week because I've been here alone, my partner has been lost in a void and has messaged me saying she is coming back tomorrow, only 2 weeks late! Primary school started yesterday and I ended up finishing the lessons quite quickly, its hard for me to answer questions (because of my swahili) so we played games for the rest of the lesson. I've heard the kids out in the playground playing the games, it was fun! Yesterday I had a CAG (community action group) meeting which was really tough because my swahili is pretty bad and they don't speak english. Luckily the VEO (Village executive officer) and village chairman were there and they know a bit of english. I pretty much conducted the whole meeting in a mixture of broken swahili, english and charades. They got the point though and our Sports League will start next Wednesday, with 2 games/week and a seminar before each game. The finals will be at our community festival in August (which we havent yet organised). We have another CAG meeting on Sunday. Things are happening, slowly but surely. My secondary school opens next week and Connor should be back this week so we can get on with building our netball court.
Oh and the story behind the name - the entire compound that my house is in was hit by a plague of ants, not just your friendly, steal your breadcrumb type of ants...these ants were lethal, fire-breathing, giant, blood-sucking...ok im exaggerating but they bite and it hurts (i think they were fire ants), the bigger ones can even make you bleed with their bites. Anyway suddenly we noticed a few coming out of the cracks in the walls and then suddenly the entire place was under seige, they covered the walls, the ground outside, the roof..I have never seen so many ants, they moved in one massive surge of reddy-brown antness!! We attacked them with my toxic bug spray but they just kept coming. They were attacking the dogs, they attacked the calf (which I thought was going to die - it was frothing at the mouth and mooooing in pain) and all the giant spiders and bugs that were in hiding were running around trying to escape them, so i got to see all the creepy spiders that live in our house too...ewww!! Anyway we had to sit in the kitchen (a little cement room connected to the house) and put burning ash at the door so they wouldnt come in. This started at about 7pm and we sat in there until 11pm when they started to run away. Lets just say I was kinda scared to sleep that night, not to mention I had to sweep all the dead little ant bodies out of my house in the morning..not so tough now are you ants!! mwahaha
