THE TEDDY TEACHER STORY LIKE THE CARTOON STORY HAS ONCE AGAIN FIRED UP PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD. I WROTE THIS TRAVELOGUE BECAUSE I KNOW BOTH COUNTRIES WELL... HAVING TRAVELLED AND EXPERIENCED BOTH...I WOULD IN THIS CASE LIKE TO SPEAK UP FOR SUDAN...
WHAT IS "TOLERANCE?" - WHAT IS THE DEFINITON ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA? IF WE ARE TO CALL A PEOPLE PRIMITIVE BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT TOLERANT WE ALSO NEED TO LOOK AT OUR OWN HOUSE.WHO THEN IS THE MORE PRIMITIVE ? SUDAN BECAUSE THEY GO BANANAS FOR THE RELIGION OF ISLAM? OR THE UK BECAUSE OF ITS" RELIGION OF TOLERANCE."
TOLERANCE:
1.The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others
2.Toleration and tolerance are terms used in social, cultural and religious contexts to describe attitudes and practices that prohibit discrimination against those whose practices or group memberships may be disapproved of by those in the majority
3.The usual definition of tolerance in pre-modern times as Bernard Lewis puts it was that:
“ I am in charge. I will allow you some though not all of the rights and privileges that I enjoy, provided that you behave yourself according to rules that
I will lay down and enforce ..."(source freedictionary &wikipedia)
Who is more primitive? Sudan or England? Is this last definition then true for MODERN Britain? IF it isnt... is there any credence to the "shamefulness (the term used by the protesters in Sudan)-of the religion of tolerance "in MODERN Britain? OR- is it simply" a clash of civilisations..".and neither religions are indeed"civilised"- and we all have still a lot to learn.
30TH November, 2007
The debate is on. Britain , a tolerant society that tolerates all religions has been accused of degrading the Islamic religion . Mr. Barry Gardiner a Labour MP representing the most diverse multi-cultural borough in Britain has said: “partisanship and any sense of competition between faiths should neither be encouraged nor allowed within the school community. “
He has also said that: “as a matter of knowledge children should be taught about other religious beliefs and taught to tolerate other religious beliefs. “(writers note:Why?-why should we tolerate what is wrong, unjust or irreverent)
However, the people of Sudan do not agree. - in fact they consider the UK shameful for its “tolerance” . They say that religion is VERY
important to the individual and should be respected and not insulted. For some people around the world religion is more important than life itself…So who then is more primitive?
Sudan or the Secular humanist state of the United Kingdom run by Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his cronies..?!
Associated press reports;
KHARTOUM , Sudan - Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, rallied Friday in a central square and demanded the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Muhammad-They massed in central Martyrs Square outside the presidential palace, where hundreds of riot police were deployed. They did not try to stop the rally, which lasted about an hour.
"Shame, shame on the U.K.," protesters chanted.
They called for Gibbons' execution, saying, "No tolerance: Execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad.
In Brent-NORTH WEST LONDON , schools do not engage or consult parents in the process of their education, the curriculum of their education ,the changes made in the their school, the staff who educate their children- or the spiritual integrity of the children that are held in the care of the state for 6
hours each day.
Parents are NOT allowed to instigate boycott as a form of democratic protest - or an action that a school may do in relation to their child. It is against the law to do so. They(the parents) are not allowed to witness how their children are being taught… it is illegal to do so. They have no right of access to the classrooms. It is against health and safety regulations..
So it is becoming even more fascist in Britain by the day as the authority of the parents to have a say in their children’s education is steadily being eroded and taken away from them;
Parents do NOT have any say whatsoever in what they are taught and by whom they are taught . There are other even more silly rules that take away more rights from the parents and turn everyday life into a freak show- ruled by stupor and fear of man.
The local primary schools are regarded as nothing more than babysitter’s centres and FREE crèches that look after children during the day so that the parents can earn a living or take a break from the humdrum
life they live in- and that’s thanks to a” nanny state mentality”!
Civil liberties, human rights, parental rights, basic democratic freedoms… are all being invalidated in the name of tolerance…and 21st century liberalism- double standards and hypocracy are the de regeur( the rule)-
Who then is more primitive..? Sudan or The UK? I wonder.
EDUCATIONAL Standards have dropped in schools, discipline has deteriorated in the UK…, OBESITY AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR has increased in the UK.- More and more children leaving school are not interested in a higher education despite having all the facilities and funds to pursue this course of action… so what is really happening? Are the youth becoming apathetic? HAVE THEY LOST ALL THEIR MOTIVATION AND DESIRE TO SUCCEED?
Is THE CRISIS in Education according to Mr. Taylor MP the fault of 17000 sub-standard; BADLY MOTIVATED AND EDUCATED teachers? No, I don’t think so.Is it lack of money? No.
Is it as a result of the increased fragmentation within the society as some sociologists and psychologists say. I also don’t think so. Or is the current system of “tolerance” and” liberalism “ at fault for a general dissatisfaction of the way today’s
generation of inner city youth is growing up in the Labour regime of “ Gordon Browns “Social change” UK ?…
- a system that BY DEFAULT encourages teenage pregnancies, welfare dependency, DRUG AND ALCOHOL abuse, anti-social behaviour, lack of YOUTHFUL ambition or desire to improve ones lot in life- and a general return to a primitive SHAMELESS state of having “ no culture”- The words spoken to the party faithful remain until today… simply that: “just words” EMPTY PROMISES… LIKE AN EMPTY SOUNDING GONG!…
- as John F. Kennedy once said;” You can fool some of the people some of the time… but you cant fool ALL the people ALL of the time!”
Whilst this is not the same for everyone; it is generally the same for the majority of young people growing up in Great Britain. Financial prosperity does not necessarily bring better standards or happier more educated children. Indeed, the 500 million pound literacy PROGRAMME has been largely regarded as a failure by the Labour Government to deliver its mandate to the people. Once again. Its not just education… but the virus has spread to other areas because the people are not really been consulted or
engaged… they are only being "jerked" or "fobbed" off.
Finally , educational standards are dropping as a result of “todays pc tolerant society” that we have been living in for the last generation.
A society that encourages children not to respect the authority of the very people who brought them into the world in the first place! -The parents. Is this primitive or cultured?
Is it any wonder that this “teddy teacher” debacle can incite such a reaction in the people of Khartoum, Sudan who take their religion seriously. For some people in Sudan- all they have is their religion.I remember one muslim giving me he last food in Sudan... why - because that is one of the pillars of his faith. Is this then primitive value or not? and it is this kind of person that is calling on the execution of this teacher.. a strange paradox indeed.
Education, SOCIETY and Culture is all about the product they deliver.. . in this case : its the child becoming a responsible ,conscious, caring and compassionate adult.
If children have values that are solid; then there will be mutual understanding and respect for all; they will
be all rounded off as individuals. True civilisation holds righteous values sacrosanct. These values are the result of a good education. Unless parents can trust the people who educate their children; unless parents have a real say in the schools that educate their children, educational standards will continue to drop in this country and others like it; unless there is real consensus…we are living in an elaborate illusion we call “civilisation.”
We would never see for example in the Sudan , the elderly robbed for some small change…nor soldiers returning from defending their country beaten up, … or some other examples of sick behaviour that is becoming commonplace and of which we read about everyday. It is an indication that the UK is NOT getting everything right that more and more English people are seeking better standards elsewhere. Better health care, better quality of life, better education, better living full stop.
In most Islamic countries delinquent behaviour amongst the youth doesn’t really exist.-Why? Because despite what people might think of this poor Islamic country of Sudan-or other Islamic countries,… they do have some core values that have been lost in this country -due to the climate of “political
correctness and secular humanist tolerance that have been foisted upon us. Whether we like it or not. Most people come here only to better themselves economically and move on. The problem is the state has become a machine...not responsible to the individual...therefore the problem amongst our public services is inherently systematic... and the root cause of this is to be found in its basic philosophy of tolerance.
The time has come to be accountable to our children and responsible for their future. The time has come to stand up for what is right and what is wrong... even if it sounds politically incorrect or intolerant. The time has come to take a good long look into the mirror of the society that this government is creating.
Our democratic freedoms are slowing being eroded from the top down through increased legislation…and from the bottom up by increased apathy… !
This persistent rot pervades throughout the consciousness of the society and the very freedoms that were hard won by the sacrifices of our ancestors ;these today being eroded by a biased media, by a disrespectful government and its persistent unaccountability; and, by a system that is beginning to break down
under the strain of its very “ intolerance “ to change , constructive criticism and fear…
True dialogue is about engaging everyone and what is important to everyone- not the select few , the “ SO-CALLED enlightened ones”…who believe they know better than us,the people of this country...
Our illusionary “freedoms “ are turning us into a Faceless primitive agnostic godless culture that insults what is regarded as sacred by people of all faiths: and that BASIC freedom is the belief in God!-and what God has taught us what is right - true and good...
If we choose to be intolerant to other beliefs that do not hold the basic tenets of our faith holy; that is the christian faith- then we should speak out. To proclaim to our children what the state believes - which essentially is some form of secular humanism... and new age hinduism ... violates the spiritual integrity of christians as a whole.
Its like calling my DOG "John Paul THE SECOND" or my pig…" Mohammed"… its insensitive. Its like slapping Islam and the Pope in the face… and this is why FAITH is central to a civilised society. I don’t need
a new african dawninga New African Dawn is coming!
what we place value on is nearly always missed in our pursuit to conform quietly... of course; the truth is that conformity is not even an option when it comes to confro
... [more]to tolerate other faiths if there is something I don’t agree with… that I believe is wrong. I can respect your spiritual background; but I don’t have to follow it...or have it shoved down my childrens throats in the name of "tolerance."
Faith is a holistic issue that should permeate ALL facets of society including politics and education… not with a specific agenda… but with openness and transparency; and, a desire to be good in whatever we believe in to be true…whether its Islam or Judaism or Christianity. Squashing and violating spiritual integrities with the New Age Science of “Eclectic Tolerance-ism” is nothing short of atavistic primeval behaviour in the highest degree. -Why because it DEHUMANISES us all. !!!
People need to grow through experience- not brainwashing! And not mindless programming!!!. This is NOT true freedom, and its not true democracy but a tacit form of fascism masquerading as “civilisation. ”masquerading as” tolerance…”
So , yes, parents have a right to know ALL about their children’s education and their children’s educators… this is because ownership is all about responsibility. If parents OWN their schools and their teachers and their curriculum, they OWN the responsibility for their children
and their future. This is civilisation!
Take this (responsibility) and ownership away from people, from parents and their guardians… and you slip once more back into the deepest darkest ages where FEAR rules instead of Trust- ignorance rules and not KNOWLEDGE…despite our modern “enlightened views” of “civilised peoples “.- we are NO better than the people we look down upon.
Responsibility is the 'ability to respond"...; if parents and guardians do not have the power or ability to respond..they do not OWN their childs education...nor their future...!- but they have indeed ABDICATED by default....!and THIS is wrong.THIS is uncivilised.
So what’s the answer? PRIVATE Schools?(PS), do we throw money at the problem and send our kids to ETON? Will children get a better quality education… the answer is simply…NO, NO THEY WONT… SIMPLY BECAUSE THE ROLE OF THE PARENT OR GUARDIAN IS VITAL IN THE OVERALL ROUNDING OFF OF THE CHILD AND HIS OR HER EDUCATION.
However, There is another radical solution… home schooling.
Home schools (HS)that are manned by parents are seeing far higher results than the national average in academic achievement statistics versus State Schools(SS). -
These are schools that are manned by “unprofessional -“UNEDUCATED “parents , some of whom are” NORMAL” working class people with very little BACKROUND AS EDUCATORS…
Mr Gardiner, Labour MP believes it is because of the social class, the consciousness and educational ability of the parent- and not the irrefutable fact that education needs to involve the parent or guardian to be successful overall- it is the child that makes the standard…not the teacher…; This is an undeniable TRUTH !
-a TRUTH that even Mr. Gardiner cannot change or deny, nor the LABOUR GOVERNMENT- no-one.
Home schools far outperform state schools. Its a statistical fact. So what is the problem…? I believe the problem in the UK … IS SYSTEMATIC…! THE STATE HAS STOLEN OUR RIGHT TO EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN AS PARENTS.
In fact to think otherwise(that the state can provide a better education without the involvement of the parent) is a naive and Orwellian idea…both in its interfering PHILOSOPHY of FORCING people to comply through law and its execution at ground level- it simply does not work.… and the stats prove it!
Professional education means that the educator needs to RESPECT AND UNDERSTAND the needs of the educated.
To not do so in the name of “tolerance” is taking away the very essence and freedoms of what makes us “civilised “ as a multicultural democratic ,open and transparent society.
These therefore, are the signs of a civilised society..:
(Understanding the needs of the educated!!! )
So unless parents are involved and engaged in the education of their children and the running of their local schools ; we are not going to be able to claim; as a “civilised” country the” higher ground”-(especially in an affluent yet spiritually deficient Great Britain.) ;appointing” parental governors” is a simple abdication of our God given responsibility to educate our children in the way they should go.; the way that the parent believes is good and just .Finally, Whether we be Gay or Straight, Muslim or Christian, Black or White-
Unless the promises of this government are delivered ON THE GRASSROOTS LEVEL-
--that is: to Listen to the people who are being governed and respect their collective will; - we cannot claim to be any better than those in Sudan who are only expressing what they believe is an important issue…EDUCATION AND RELIGION.
I thank you
Robin Denton
