Day One Shot
Liza and I were the only ones from CIEE to go on this trip (being poor and not able to afford the Botswana or Mozambique trips). We had to take a "first day" picture for no reason other than to compare it to the last day of the trip picture.
My spring break trip to Namibia began early on Sunday morning when i awoke to an SMS message at 7:11 from Liza asking if I was up. The taxi was going to be there at 7:15 AM. Of course I slept through my alarm and had to race to shower and shave and leave before the taxi left us. Typical Kari! Anyway - we made it to Greenmarket Square where our trip would depart from. We were travelling in a big white 'safari' like truck that held our tents in a side compartment and our bags above our seats. There was a fridge and storage in the back of the truck and on top our sleeping mats were stored. We made a stop along the cape to take pictures of Table Mountain and then had a stop at the grocery store for water and snacks. Our first night we camped in South Africa at a site called "The Baths" which had hiking trails and hot springs which heated baths and pools.
With my new hiking boots and hat I was prepared to do my first hike in a long time with some other girls from America on the tour. We

Table Mountain
Sooo excited to be on break and on my way to Namibia
ended up getting off the trail and scaling this small mountain! We realized we were off the trail when we could not longer hike, but had to climb over rocks jutting from the side of the mountain. Luckily no one was injured and we made our way to the turn we had missed. We were able to see that it was an "easy" trail after all and we looped back down in time for dinner by the fire. Later on we tried out the heated pools in the evening and it was amazing! The stars that night were so close and there were thousands in the sky. The only thing that sucked was the freezing temperatures and the 5 AM departure the next day! We needed to cross the border into Namibia and set up our next camp along the Guariep River (or Orange River).
