Today is a nice chill sunday so I figured it was a good time to update everyone on my time in Mossel Bay.
I arrived... Wednesday? Thursday? I don't know.
That day I just walked around town, sat on the beach for a couple hours, then came back to the hostel for dinner.
I was sitting with Enrique, a columbian guy from Miami I had met earlier in the day.
This crazy dude from Mozambique came over and started talking to us, then we were also joined by a South African named Byron and this dude whose name sounds like Bidea from Australia.
We spent the night on the patio, just talking and laughing at Mozambiques hilarious awesome jokes and stories.
Thursday I woke up early and did the Shark Cage Dive.
There was only four people in my group which was fantastic (actually, one a guy from Calgary! But he was weird).
We got out and they started chumming the water.
We waited two hours until the first shark wandered by.
Jumped into our wetsuits, hopped in the freezing water, and waited.
The cage, if you haven't seen this, is like 7 feet tall, wide enough for 5
or 6 people, attatched to the side of the boat.
You have big goggles, and when the shark goes by you duck under the water and check him out.
The first shark just went by slowly, a little far away.
Not too exciting.
They kept chumming and throwing out the bait (which made me very very smelly) and another Great White came by.
He grabbed the bait and then smashed face first into the cage half a foot infront of my face.
I could see all of his teeth.
And this is like a three and a half meter great white!
He kept thrashing against the cage and we were just shaking and freaking out.
But seriously it was sooo awesome.
We got to see 4 or 5 sharks and it was so fantastic.
I didn't take any photos, but the New Zealanders with me took a thousand fantastic ones and they're going to email them when they get back in three months.
That night... we braaied.
Braai is like a BBQ, but in South Africa.
And just wood, no charcoal.
Since Byron is South African, he hooked us up big time, we had a fantastic feast.
I

think we just stayed up talking Thursday night.
My days here are kind of running together.
Friday I slept in and it was sooo fantastic.
Except the hostel is right beside a kids school, and they were doing choir practice all morning.
So they would start singing, I would start laughing, Byron would start laughing, so the sleep in wasn't 100% fantastic but it was still pretty good.
The boys went surfing I think, and I headed down to the beach and just chilled there for the afternoon.
The weather wasn't great, so it wasn't busy at all and nice to just chill by myself.
Friday night we figured we should go out.
So me, Enrique, Byron and Ares, an Isreili guy, headed out on the town.
We went to two pubs, then up to Big Blue, a club on the Waterfront.
It was very OC, sand on the ground and all that.
But it was pretty cool, Byron got to spin for a bit and we were dancing and having a good time.
We went outside and started talking to some people from Jo'berg who invited us all to stay at their houses and meet their families
and drive us around town when we get up there.
All of a sudden it's three am, and a waiter comes out with a tray of 50 beers, some cider, and a bottle of Jag for us to keep drinking after hours.
I guess we definately hooked up with the right crowd.
Me and Enrique went and stood on this platform that was so close to the huge waves crashing you actually got sprayed.
Then it was late, so we started walking home, but I made everyone sit on the beach for like an hour (at 4-5 am).
It was a late night but totally fantastic.
Yesterday we were joined by two crazy German girls, the Carolines.
the 6 of us went to this secret surfing place, Ding Dang.
You had to like climb over rocks for 10 minutes to find it.
But the beach was totally secluded, minus a few local kids who I tried to make help me bury Enrique, but didn't understand English.
Once we were all good and tanned we came back and braaied again (I'm eating FANTASTIC here in Mossel Bay).
Byron left us, which was sad.
The rest of us found a balcony
BraaiByron and Enrique, cooking on the braai
on the roof and just chilled up there for the night chatting.
I was going to leave today, but the Caroline's made me stay one more day.
So we're headed out to the pool for the afternoon, and in a coupld hours walking to the lighthouse to watch the sunset.
The tomorrow I'm going to head to Wilderness.
I'm excited to keep going, but I will miss this place sooo much.
