The hotel in Clanwilliam was an interesting place. Main course, dessert then soup (we cancelled the soup). The trip today was over undulating dirt, a long day all the way to Springbok. The first parts of the day we had a perfect latte and carrot cake at a brilliant cafe set in the wilderness run by a lovely couple (the boys were particularly impressed by the lady of the house). Pam bought a china plate, which John complained about having to carry in his truck. After that a short run to the Smidswinkel restaurant for lunch - another toasty. And then the "hard run" to Springbok, 150km of sandy dirt. Beautiful scenery and wild flowers, the photos don't do it justice. And then we wind up in the most eccentric hotel in Springbok. Just completed our 2nd day's riding and it was a cracker. Started off last of the group (as usual), and again the temperature was chilly, around 10°C. The BMW Rally suit is coming into its own, with the thermal inserts I would not have believed I would need in Africa. Typical uneducated northern viewpoint I suppose. We head out of town following our GPS route and chatting away, passing John and Su and the support trucks. After a little while I notice the route today is coloured yellow, whereas yesterday it was purple. No, wait. It turns out I missed a turn 10 mins ago, so we double back. 15 minutes later, we pass John and Su again. No harm done. A beautiful off road day with some major climbs and dramatic vistas. Once again when went for a drive to "say goodbye" to my Dad and Wanda before they get too far away.. This time my oldest brother (Faizel) and his family joined us on our little roadtrip. Rondeberg resort seems like a very nice place to chill out, (even if you don't have a boat) and it's only about 3hr drive from Cape Town. anyway, as promised here are some pics..... read more

Hi, we arived at a beutifull park 20 km otherside of Clan william called Ronde berg resort, 0n the Buls hoek dam, what a beutiful park, lovely green lawns, good kleen ablutions and the most buetiful few. thay have a little shop that supplys the basics, a hall with built in braai, big screen T V, and a pub. there are a couple of caravan sites with private ablutions and kitchen, very neatly done, the manager and his daughter run the place to the highest standerds i have seen in a long time, extreemly helpfull and very pleasant people, will post some pics of the place.
