Half way upCape Town half way up the mountain. It looks nice now, but it got windy and cloudy quickly.
I've managed to make it through one week in Cape Town and the one thing I've noticed is that there are very McDonald's around. There are McDonald's here, but not one at every corner like in the US and not one with a 24 hour drive thru like the one at Albion. They have the Mega Mac, or the Double Big Mac, here but it still has fewer calories than the Monster Thickburger from Hardee's that a group of us ate earlier this summer, and no, I have not tried it yet, but it is on my long to-do list. I know many of you are reading this thinking "We're sitting here talking about McDonald's. Not a nice restaurant, not a nice restaurant-McDonald's," but eating the fattest fast food burgers are the Arc of the Covennant to my Indiana Jones. Anyone who ate the Monster Thickburger will proudly tell you how good it was.
As for actual South Africa stuff, we've gone on tours to Kensington, which is one of the poor townships where blacks and non-whites were relocated to during Apartheid, and to downtown Cape Town. The people in the township were very humble and seemed very content and happy
with what they had. During Apartheid, the rich whites took over most of the city and the non-whites were relocated to government sanctioned townships, whereas in the US, most whites moved out to the suburbs and the blacks stayed in the cities.
Overall, Cape Town is a very nice city. The whole layout reminds me a little bit of Las Vegas or San Diego because like Las Vegas it's situated right below the mountains, and you can pretty much always see the mountains from wherever you are at in the area. We ate down at the waterfront one night and I had Kingklip (spelling?), which is a local fish, and it was very good.
There have been two disappointing things since I have been here. The first one was Friday, when we went on a guided climb of Table Mountain, and got 3/4 of the way to the top, and we had to abandon the climb because the wind was gusting too hard and we were completely surrounded by storm clouds. The view wouldnt have even been worth it at the top because there were too many clouds, so hopefully I'll make it all the way to the top on
a nicer day. The second disappointing thing is that The Dark Knight doesnt open until next Friday here. I've heard nothing but great things about the movie and I'm really excited to go see it. Tomorrow classes start at UCT so after two weeks off, I'm back in school...

I am so glad that things are going well for you and that you found places to eat that remind you of the good old US of A.
The picture are breath taking. Last week I did some research on the campus and I was really surprised at how beautiful the University is.
OK, here I go, no more Michigan replay on Sunday, Rich is not into that kind of stuff, go figure. That has not gone over very well as many MI fans do watch the show on Sunday.
I sold my first Lions tickets today - the Bears game, yeah for me. Now I only have 6 more to go. Taylor is going to the Redskins, Kevin Jones signed with the Bear and Shockey is going to New Orleans.
Take care and you know I will write again.
