We arrived in the pouring rain and had to get a bus from the tarmac to the customs building.
Kell got to enter on her South African passport which meant she was in a seperate line about 10 people long. I had to line up in the Foreign passport line behind about 200 people. Took me 40min to get through.
Got our bags and headed for the car. Unfortunately the cover from rain was pretty poor and there didnt seem to be any proper drainage which meant there were huge puddles to dodge. Got pretty drenched and I was in a t-shirt so was freezing but finally made the car.
Passed a township on the way to our new home, was pretty interesting. Anyway our new home was in a retirment village lol. They have a security boomgate at the entrance constantly manned by at least one person. Usually more. Then you go through the manual boomgate and they open the security gate. The whole retirement village is fenced with electric fences about 2.5m high. Then the apartment has its own security gate before you get to the front door. I dont know if seeing all this was
meant to make me feel more safe, or less safe lol.
Anyway we were pretty buggered from the flight but felt like we should do something today, so we got driven to a local shopping mall, Cavendish.
When you get to a set of traffic lights here (robots), there are black guys hanging out for the red light so they can sell you anything from newspapers to avocados. Service with a smile. I'm used to it now but it made me pretty uneasy to start with. Espescially after all the stories of South Africa. The mall was pretty crap but it had a bar so we got a couple of beers before being picked up.
Went home a was totally exhausted so crashed before being woken up for dinner and crashed again.
Slept for more than 12 hours.
