I arrived quite late in Cape Town cause I was only able to catch the 3pm flight out of PE thanks to the idiot check in lady at SAA standby desk. Not going to explain the how and why but the stupid moo was obviously not having the happiest day of her life and took it out on me. So instead of arriving at half one in Cape Town, I was only there at half four which was just a wee bit too late to go up Table Mountain. Ah well, there's always tomorrow, I thought. Oh how ignorant I was.
After I dropped my stuff in the backpackers I went for a quick stroll around Long street. I noticed there was a market just off one of the side streets and quickly marched in that direction only to find out there was nothing I was interested in. I walked further down the street passing the Cape Times and spent a few minutes looking at the photo's on display. I would've gone for a longer walk had it not been that chilly outside. The wind blowing over the Cape was just a bit too cold for my light sweater, so
I went to get my fleece in the dorm. Once I got in the cosy and warm room though, I lost the energy for more activities so I just caught up on the reading, Ghandi's Johannesburg, which Dewald gave me as a present (thanks again babes, enjoying it). Then this girl in my dorm asked me something quite funny "Excuse me, you don't happen to have a hairdryer with you, do you ?". Ehhm, no love. D'ya see the backpack ? It means I'm backpacking. No hairdryers. Lol. She and her friend were running in and out the bathroom getting ready to go out. They looked lovely in the end though, but I was baffled at the amount of time these youngsters invested in a regular night out. Her friend asked me what I was doing that night. "Just dinner and sleep" I said. She looked at me with a sorry look as if saying "awh, I'm sorry you don't have any friends to go out with". Lol. Which was kinda true but I couldn't be bothered going out, to be honest. I was wrecked anyway.
For dinner I got myself a pack of Thai chicken curry at a
place called Noodlebosch opposite the backpackers. First I was going to eat it all alone in the kitchen (I'm starting to sound quite pathetic, aren't I ?) but then decided to have it in the inner court where 2 German lads, Thomas and Ulrich, were talking. They turned out to be quite fun to chat with and Thomas asked me to join them for a few drinks. Yeah, why not. So off we went to a few of Long Street's 'hip and trendy' bars. Time goes by really fast when you're having fun. I didn't even realize it was already that late when Thomas said it was half three, so then we decided wisely to call it a night as the lads were taking a bus to Hermanus early the next day, and I had a date with the mountain.
I was so bummed the next morning as I stood in front of the cable car station to find out that the 'tablecloth' was hugging my date. It was a cloudy day all together, but this cloud was especially low and covering the entire Table Mountain. Shite ! I waited for quite some time, hoping it would clear up
or maybe just move a bit to the other side. But nope, not even a bloody centimeter. Figuring there was no point in shivering up a mountain trying to look over the city through thick fog I cabbed it back to Long Street stopping briefly at Signal Hill.
With no itinerary whatsoever (I've seen the sights a few years ago) and a flight to catch in the evening, I settled for a lazy day and went to a streetside restaurant for a quick bite. Thomas suddenly appeared in front of me. The lad clearly missed his bus to Hermanus. Ah the poor thing. Good for me though, cause I got my company for the day. Lol. After lunch we went for a walk and spent the afternoon wandering around the Waterfront.
I left the backpackers around 8 for my flight to Amsterdam. "When are you coming back ?" asked the immigration officer. "As soon as I've saved up some money to come back" I said.
Classic pole They have this everywhere, but it's always fun checking out the distances.
Table MountainSlowly clearing up in the evening. What a crappy timing ! Gorgeous though, isn't it ?

oh i hope you enjoy the book love! you are welcome.... did you get that boy's number???? :)
I simply LOVED the hair-dryer story. Obviously some girls don't leave their homes without their diamonds and pearls - and a hair dryer. So true, I've seen it before.
