After leaving Heathrow T5 it was a 10.5 hour flight with British Airways to Jo'berg. During the flight i managed to watch "The Bucket List" starring Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman. All about what two guys do once they have been told they have 6 months to live. They then write a list of thing they need to do before they kick the Bucket. During many of there adventure they visit Kruger Park and go Sky Diving, both things that are planned on my travels.
Arrive into Jo'berg a 6.50am then a domestic flight on a 50 seater twin propelled plan onto Heodspruit about 50 minutes away. I arrived in what i can only describe as one on the most beautiful airport around.
Met with Bree one of the staff and we then had a quick beer whilst waiting for Mel to arrive on the next flight.
Then off we went into town to get some suppies (OK WINE & BEER) we arrived into Campfire safaris camp at about 2.30pm. this was a green haven of palm trees and plants with many colourful flower in amongst a bush that is very dry and bear due to fact its winter
in south Africa and is nice and warm still (22).
The camp is built around a main house were the family live and a combination of caravans and huts. the is another large building which is the main cooking area for breakfast and lunch and a seating area. upstairs is the classrom and above that is a outdoor area for sleeping out under the stairs (So gonna do that tonight) there is then a higher tower from that, this looks out for miles onto a never ending bush. This is were we both saw our first wildlife, a family of Giraffe. OMG i'm in Africa and it still does not feel real yet.
The rest of the group, about 25 arrived back at camp. This group is a mixture of age groups from the 18 to 22 year olds to another group of 25 to 40. The camp has a very relaxed atmostphere to it were you make your own breakfast and lunch and the main meal is cooked for you. Our first nights meal was amazing. Salad with roast impala, which is abit like a deer and taste fantastic, very lean and better than beef. After a
couple of bottles of wine a few of us went to the top look out tower and WOW i have never seen to many bright stars and even the milky Way.
By 9.30pm ready for bed as had no sleep on the plane. My home for the next 8 weeks is one of the caravans and its all mine (well for the moment anyway, as some are sharing) very comfortable and was a sleep within seconds. Woke this moring after a great nights sleep to the sounds of the bush and a family of monkeys running over the roof of the caravan.
Welcome to South Africa
