WeddingChanelle, Tammy (bride), Aoife and Vicky
After a great reunion with the Greeffs, we flew back to Johannesburg and made the 4.5 hour drive to the Drakensberg Mountains for Tammy's wedding. After making our way through the thickest fog and a long windy road through a shanty town (where I might add the African people walk in the middle of the street ... drunk ... or drive cars without head or tail lights), we arrived at the stunning Didima Camp. Due to the fact that we only arrived at 7pm, we never realised we were beside beautiful mountain ranges.
The wedding was another grand reunion with Vicky's crazy Durban friends. (And anyone from Durban will agree we are a breed of our own!) Many shots of Jagermeister were to be had, much dancing was to be done ... it was a great night!
We spent another 3 nights in the "Berg" at Champagne Sports Resort amongst beautiful green mountains. Went for a couple of runs to see if our muscles could remember how to run. Nearly died! The air up in the Drakensberg is so thin, and yes there are heaps of horrible hills! Other activities included a 1 hour horseride (again ... nearly died),
a half hour walk to a waterfall (which I think took us 1 hour) and a photo shoot with Craig and Chanelle who are wedding photographers currently building a strong name in London. Heaps of fun trashing a wedding dress! (Not my own of course).
Vicky has been re-acquainting herself with South Africa and it's amusing ways. So has been born the phrase "Only in South Africa". Like, only in South Africa is it unsafe to go for a walk down the road, but the African people walk along the Freeway. And only in South Africa does no one pay attention to the speed limit (we drove to Drakensberg at 140 - 160 km/hr), but when the police do pull you over they will actually request a bribe! And only in South Africa are manholes and telephone wires stolen to be sold on the black market. Then there's the problem of people falling into manholes and the discovery of people hanging from telephone wires when they've tried to cut them live!
