So I had to end my last entry in a hurry because my internet time was running out.
We just arrived back in South Africa in St. Lucia which is located in an estuary. Not sure exactly what that means. But apparently there are hippos that sleep in the river behind our backpacker.
After walking to our car from the internet cafe, we discovered our car had a flat tire. About 10 men and boys came to help us. Angelique and I were in charge of watching all of our luggage. An older lady even stopped with her basket on her head and told us to keep an eye on the guys "helping"- Imka and Sina said they already knew how to change the tire.
We eventually made it to Swaziland where we stayed at a backpacker for two nights on the Milwane reserve. It was so gorgeous. We woke up to ostriches and warthogs literally five feet outside the door to our room. We went horseback riding (for only $15, Mom) through the park and saw different boks, crocodiles, zebras, hippos, wilderbeasts, and more ostriches and warthogs. Milwane is located right across the valley from the King of Swaziland's palace where he lives with his mother, the queen, and I think four of his fourteen wives, "and counting."
On the reserve is Execution Rock, where about 500 years ago the punishment in Swaziland was to walk to the mountain, hike up, and wait to be pushed off by the executioners. For me, the hike up the mountain would be punishment enough...ha!
When I get back home and have time to digest more of what I have seen and experienced, I will try to write more details and experiences.
Tomorrow, I think we are going kayaking through the reserve. Hopefully I don't get swallowed by a hungry hippo!
