zip lining in Joburg
Published: July 13th 2012Africa » South Africa » Gauteng » Johannesburg » SandtonWell I have been in Joburg for almost a week, and it is nothing like what you expect. When i arrived after 19 hours of flying I decided to go to the Sandton Mall. I have to tell you I felt completly under dressed. Everyone was in designer gears and looked like they were all heading to a flash restaurant for dinner lol. The weather is really nice, you wouldnt know itnis winter other than it been a bit cold in the morning, the days are clear sky and warm. One thing you notice is the two sides of Johannesburg the really rich and the very poor. Drove past a township today its amzing how people mange to live there, and you could smell it as you went past. At the traffic lights or robots as ... read more

The last week or so on the farm we spent at the schools. Teaching at St Basil's everything from English and Maths to HIV awareness; a real eye opener. We played football with the kids in the afternoons, naturally we were made to look terrible by the 9-14 year olds both because of the heat and the fact that we are generally rubbish. We also visited another school on a neighboring farm, much newer than St Basil's, and spent the day there teaching and talking to the headmistress about her plans for the school which currently operates out of her front room. It has been overcast but warm for the last few days of my time in Zim. Since returning to Harare we managed to pack a lot into a few days before I headed back ... read more

Jo'burg... it's all about rand
Insgesamt sind Frauke u... read more
On the road to Johannesburg
On friday most of the australian students had arranged to get togeather and go out for christmas. After finishing out wardwork for the day we headed over to the house being rented by the other university of sydney boys for a barbeque. We sat arround a table eating and drinking and it felt like christmas. The others had arranged a private minibus to take us all into a nightclub in an area called santon. I got carded at the door and then asked for my date of birth, the man said i had a baby face. Once inside we began to drink again. We had been talking expansivly about how great milo was and had earlier decided that we would do shots of milo at the bar. Thankfully the bartender was game and we slammed down ... read more
