My mission in South Africa, next to visiting Dewald, is also to bungy off the Bloukrans bridge which is the world's highest commercial jump. Well, today is the day.
I took the Baz Bus to Storms River together with James from Brighton who also stayed at Lungile Backpackers in PE. The driver dropped us both at Dijembe backpackers where James was staying the night. After having a good look around I was a bit bummed not staying there too cause the place looked like the perfect place to chill out. Ah well.
Come harnessing time I was surprisingly calm. True that it was my 2nd time to jump, but my first was a mere 43m at the Kawarau bridge in Queenstown, NZ. A kiddies' jump compared to the record breaking 216m of the Bloukrans.
The walk to the jumping point was very scary. You walk right underneath the bridge and can actually see the gorge beneath your feet. "Don't look down Ivone, don't look down". Of course I looked down. Terrifying, I'm telling ya, but the Face Adrenalin crew was ace in talking us through the experience, making us really feel at ease.
Words cannot describe what
I felt when I jumped. The effect of the 7 seconds free fall was only felt in the first 2 seconds, after that I just enjoyed the view, watched the ground coming closer towards me and listened to the silence. Amazing ! But I suppose you have to do it yourself to really understand.
"So, was that the best few seconds of your life, crazy ?" asked the lad who came to turn me into seating position. "Yes" I said. "Really ? Are you sure ?" He asked again with a smile. Ha ha.. Well.. Lol.
After the jump I hitchhiked back to Storms River. I know some of you may think I'm crazy for doing that, but yeah.. that's me hey ? Please don't tell my mum though, cause she'd kill me.
Double securityRed for the ankles, black for the harness. Both connected to the rope.
RobinThanks for keeping me alive Robin, appreciate it !

216m, wow! My highest bungee jump was 180m and since I know how thrilling it is I started to sweat only reading about your jump and looking at the photos. Your body position suggests that you are very much in control of yourself - I've seen people falling with both arms and legs rotating
No need to sweat though, I'm sure this jump is not much different than yours. But it's a thrill nevertheless. I definitely recommend it.
