First off, let me begin by saying that the people at Equity are amazing and not just because half of them are signed up for my blog. On my last day of work on Wednesday, Mully, gave me a ginormous flyswatter, 2 toy tigers, a toy lion and a toy snake and some munchkins! Come to find out I was earlier to work that see expected me to be so she made my sister Michelle call me over to her desk to distract me so she could set up my desk. Later on in the day I had everyone I worked with sign my flyswatter. Now they can all cross that off their bucket list.
In addition, they threw me a little shindig with my pod (people near me) my friends and people I worked closely with which was really cool we had sandwiches and cake. And the cake had palm trees because those were the only trees Mully could find. Unfortunately there are no palm trees here....
There were a bunch of people who almost ruined the surprise for me but since it was my last day of work I was very involved in my work so I
could finish it all. Matt called me and asked me if the philly cheese steaks (one of the types of sandwiches) were here yet, Helene told me my lunch was here and when I got thoroughly confused, with both of them, they dropped it. Vicki and Jenn both said something to me but I didn't acknowledge them, I had no idea what was going on until Mully came to get me and she told me we were going to a meeting. I knew something was up because I never went to meetings because I just wasn't that important. She only did that though because Michelle forgot it was her job to get me into the conference room :P
We had a small little going away party with just my family on Saturday night. It was nice, we just had pizza and blueberry pie. What stunk was that I didn't get to say bye to my best friends becca and rachel. We even ordered the pizza from Dominos where Rachel works and requested her but dominos was too busy and some other guy delivered. Lame.
My first flight took off at 2:30 ish from TF green it wasn't bad.
Short flight to DC. I just read, but once we got to Dullus airport I had to request a different seat because it was south African airlines, not United so the people in prov couldn't do it. My online confirmation had me in an aisle seat which I would have been fine with but then my real ticket had me in an inside seat, It was a 2-4-2 plane so that would have really stunk. The only seat available was a window seat which I took because it was better. Right after I got my new boarding pass, they were calling my class to board, just in time..probably because I almost got lost, that airport is huge!. For the flight to Dakar, I was so bored. I had a book, but it quickly got dark out and I didn't want to be the only one with the light on. I was only bored because my headphones didn't work. This flight was when I got most of my sleeping in. We really only stopped to refuel, the flight attendants changed and some of the passengers, but not that many. On the way to Joburg, I tried my own headphones, and if
I held them in the right position, they worked. I ended up watching Hunger Games, Men in Black, an episode of the Big Bang Theory, What's your number and A thousand words.
While on the plane, I obviously got fed and it was surprising better than I thought. Well my dinner was not very good, it was chicken and spinach, couscous and vegies. It was really spicy though and gave me the hiccups which was certainly not fun. But they made up for it with the yummy roll, salad and cheesecake. For breakfast, I had an omelet, with sausage and potatoes along with a croissant. Finally for lunch I had beefstew, roll, rice, and mixed veggies. There was also this weird carrot and pineapple medley that I chose not to finish, and then some more cake for dessert. 😊
The guy sitting next to me and I didn't talk for almost the whole 15 hour flight until the last ten minutes, turned out he was from joburg and had been in the us on business. He seemed nice and told me everything we were passing by in the plane including a gold mine.
In Joburg, once we
airplane food
way better than expected landed, we debarked onto the tarmac and took a bus to the airport, during that time, there were these 3 ginger girls and a little blonde boy all from the same family fighting over a seat and it reminded me of my family. When the bus stopped, we had to go into the airport and separate into south africa passports and other passports, after my passport got stamped (finally! my first one!) While in line, I met these old people going to a bunch of different African countries. Then I had to go grab my checked back, go through customs, recheck my bag, scan my carryon and finally find my gate. While on the way there, I met an Australian who was going to Cape Town to meet her swiss friend to travel. She was really cool, she was giving me tips as to what college to study abroad at 😊 But I must say that JoBurg's airport was more confusing than Dullus!
I was served another sandwich on the plane to PE and somebody was traveling with her husband but they had separate seats so they asked me if I could move, which wasn't a big deal so
I did and I had a middle seat now and then two people came over together with a child and I was like you two together? and they said yeah, and so i moved again and got the window seat. Cities at night are so beautiful 😊
Finally, I arrived in PE and someone from Seaview got me and then we drove like 30 minutes and we were finally here. I live in a cabin with one other woman, Kitty (Katrina) she was sleeping when I arrived. And I was so exhausted from traveling all day I called home and then passed out.
