Woke up to fresh coffee sitting outside my room and a sunrise over the lush greenery of the hills outside the city. I slept like a baby...a bit sweaty but other then the howling dogs and constant buzz of generators and streetcars...quiet as can be! Actually, I'm already making good use of a few key supplies: sleeping pills, bug nets, extra sheet to cover the bed, bug spray, my hand held fan, anti-malaria pills, my Eddie Bauer lamp (that my WONDERFUL mother found), and of course EAR PLUGS= sweet dreams in Freetown! :)
You won't believe all that we did/saw today! We have a driver taking us all over town, Bundo, and he hooked us up with brand new cell phones (text me if you want : 076220188, country code is 232...i think) and a tour of the city. We ate fresh croissants and tea with mango juice for breakfast, bought some new fabric so we can all have dresses made, walked along the beach in the rain, ....and then got mocked by a buch of preteens about how ridiculous we all looked soaking wet..., had hummus and pita by the water, we saw the new president drive by ( he actually WAVED at me!!!!), had a beautiful dinner at the Bongo Club (Hawaiian pizza...so good!!) and just sat on our balcony watching the sunset and reading the New York Times! Doesn't sound like I'm in a developing country does it?!! But when you see the pictures, you'll understand how different this picture looks from the inside. I am doing so well and feel so blessed to be here. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers....I couldn't be better taken care of!
Tuesday I am heading up country to Kabula to visit the school/orphanage...I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT!!! I'll try to post pictures soon...

Hi Ash!! What a beautiful blog entry!! I cried...shocker. ha ha ha. Sounds like you are going to make freetown a good home for yourself for the next 6 months. Wow, still can't believe you're going to be gone for so long! I miss you a lot already. Thanks for the text and phone call. My birthdy was uneventful but I know how abundantly blessed I am to have such beautiful people in my life. Be well, my love. Can't wait for the newest updates
